Howe
So I got my 1872-1972 A History of Howe booklet and found a couple of interesting bits.

Howe was still offering a piston pump as an option in 1972.

At that time they offered single stage, 2 stage (600psi max) and 3 stage (800psi max) centrifugal pumps.

They also claim a couple of firsts

The first to combine a volume pump with a pto driven high pressure fog pump.

Howe introduced their top mount pump panel in 1966, and claim it to be the first available to the fire service.

Supposedly the last truck delivered wwith a piston pump went to Uniondale, IN on a Ih chassis.

Anybody have a shot that details the pump operators area on one of these early top mount pump panels? It looks like they just have a notch taken out of the body for a small panel compared to those today that typically utilize the whole space between cab and body.

That pretty much sums it up.  Early top mounts from Pierce used the same layout.  Just room enough for one guy to stand and run the pump.  As I recall, there was usually a good sized compartment on the officer's side.
