2 Semi wrecks same spot 7 days apart.

On 5-9-2017 around 06:45 am Fire and EMS units from Southwest Allen County Indiana Fire District were alerted to a Personal Injury crash on Interstate 69 in the construction zone at the Southern Allen county line. A bridge was being replaced and a temporary bridge had been installed to divert traffic. For unknown reasons the semi truck drove through the barricades over a 2 foot pile of asphalt that had been removed. The semi continued down the creek bank coming to rest wedged under and against the new bridge abutment.

When Units arrived the driver was pinned in the truck. A Haz-Mat was declared with an estimated 300 gallons of diesel and motor oil running into the creek. The patient was extricated and transported in critical condition. Booms were placed in the creek. at the crash site and several miles away in Huntington county. Sadly the patient was taken off life support several days later.

1 Week to the day a 2nd semi again for unknown reasons crashed through the barricades and ended up in the creek. This time the incident would be larger than ever imagined. The crash happened about 0445 in the morning but was not discovered until construction workers arrived at 06:45. This time the truck was hauling Hazardous Materials, and lost all of its fuel into the creek.

This time the Semi went through the almost 3 feet of concrete. You can still see the red marks on the concrete from the first wreck.

all the way through the concrete bridge abutment. The driver was flown to the Trama center after about a 30 MIN EXTRICATION.

Great shots....Due to the time of both accidents I wonder if a sleep issue may have been a factor.

May I make a suggestion that you block out the company names. If you go to the Tow411 sight that is always done. Lastly I would love to have seen pictures of the recovery and the wreckers used to recover casualties. Thanks for the great pictures and write up
