On August 4th, I attended the SPAAMFAA convention in New Jersey.  It was overcast when I arrived and there was a line of apparatus parked on the street near the convention hotel.  I walked from one end of the line to the other, getting specs and snapping pics as I went.  As I approached the end of the line, the sun peaked out a bit, so I reversed course, snapping better lit pics as I went.  Shortly after completing this, several NJ Forestry rigs arrived and I added them.  I also had the pleasure of meeting up with a guy I had not seen in about 30 years, fellow apparatus photographer and author John Rieth, a longtime employee of NJ Forestry.  After a lengthy conversation with him, I continued moving to the small outdoor vendor area, but the sun had gone away and no more apparatus were showing up.  Suddenly, the bottom dropped out and I ran for the car, deciding that it was time to head for Jon's house in Durham.  I later found out that it did clear up that afternoon, but most of the additional apparatus that arrived were ones I have previously photographed.  I didn't regret my decision to leave early, because traffic was miserable from there all the way to Richmond, VA and it took way longer than normal to get to Durham.
