It has been over five months since I posted here.  The "scamdemic" has curtailed many of my apparatus photography plans for this year, including a couple trips with my buddies from North Carolina and my planned trip home to WNY.  Most Metro Atlanta FD's are on "lockdown" not even answering the door to visitors.  Recently, my buddy Avery told me that he had stopped at a Walton County, GA station and shot a couple apparatus and was welcomed without any display of paranoia or fear of catching anything from him.  So, yesterday, I ventured out with my camera for the first time since March.  I had an ambitious list of seven "targets".
Just like Avery, I was welcomed everywhere I went.  The guys were friendly, accommodating, and seemed genuinely happy to see a visitor.  I returned home several hours later, after photographing all seven rigs!  Encouraged by my success, I am already planning several more trips in the near future, weather permitting.

I visited several stations in North Carolina on vacation and all were open and willing to pull apparatus out. Some places I was told to wear a mask and maintain distancing but then the crew were the first to want to shake your hand and strike up a conversation. I miss the visits to stations and I'm sure some are not welcoming in any way but many are the same as always... Good luck Dave!

Back in 2015, Clayton County, GA placed twin Ford F-550/Pierce 1000/300 4x4 mini pumpers in service at Stations 7 and 8.  They replaced the full size engines in those stations in an attempt to decrease costs due to the wear and tear on larger rigs running 95% EMS calls.  During 2016, TAK 7 was relocated to Station 5, swapping for their Pierce Enforcer pumper.   TAK 8 moved to Station 2.  Both Stations 2 and 8 operate 75' Pierce Arrow XT quints.  If either TAK goes out for maintenance, the crew is issued a full size reserve pumper.  This new TAK 2 now gives the department a reserve TAK unit.  The body configuration is somewhat different, with the pump panel inside the driver's side front compartment.  The older rigs were in posts #5868 and #6071.
