Hazleton, PA 551 W. Broad Street, 17-Oct-2020 Structure Fire
#1
On Saturday, 17-October-20 the Hazleton Fire Department was toned out for a "couch on fire" and it was reported that all residents had evacuated the structure.

First arriving Engine found a burning cushion on the sidewalk with the residents standing around it, they also found the window frame and part of the wall on fire in living room. The brothers had the fire knocked down fairly quickly and sent about an hour overhauling the living room and clearing the two units of smoke. The American Red Cross provided shelter for the six adults and two dogs displaced by the fire.

There was no fire to see when I arrived although there was still some smoke showing but that dissipated fairly quickly while I was getting in place. Now I am lucky I have press credentials, I am a Contributing Photographer for the Hazleton Standard Speaker so I can get closer here than I was able to in Vegas, so I was pretty much right outside the front door on the sidewalk.

The Deputy Chief on the scene stated that when they arrived they found the cushion on fire on the sidewalk and the residents were standing around it just looking at it. They ruled the fire as accidental being as a electric space heater shorted out and caught the couch on fire.

Bill Barr a local fire photographer can be seen here with the crews. He arrived with the first engine and was attempting to take a photo of the fire when the crew opened up as they went in. He is also a member of the Hazleton Fire Department.

Thanks Chief. I was taught in collage to shoot in black and white for the two photo journalism classes I took and have always loved it.
