Los Angeles County Fire Dept
The only rigs getting the Chicago style paint job are the CAFS engines.

Tim,

I did some searching on lacountyfire.com , and found this post by firemandave.

I just saw a recent training memo that we are getting a total of two more CAFS engines in the new order. Besides already delivered E118 and E24. E82 and E126 are to get the other two CAFS rigs. In all, we are getting a grand total of 96 new engines (4 of which are the CAFS), according to the memo.

So, I imagine that 82's is in service by now.

Engine 7 was assigned this '89 KME, but, it has replaced by one of the new KMEs. The '89 KME is now Reserve Engine 507.

Did KME get the bid for those 96 new engines or it is other companies too?

Yes, LA County uses a bid process. I don't know what other companies may have bid, but they were the lowest bidder.

Thanx, I got lucky in getting the rig. They did not have to pull it out for me. The Department is in the process of rehabbing the station and both engines were parked outside when I pulled up. The crews are staying in the portable trailers seen to the left of the rig. I think that the numbers on the grill add a nice touch to the rig. Engine 82 is only the second rig that I know of that has the numbers on the grill. Engine 73 is the other one.

BTW Tim, Engine 574 ('90 KME) was parked in the driveway to the right of the station and it had regular sized numbers on the front of the rig (No small stencils).
