The new House of Pain is replacing their former quarters which were condemned by the city. I believe that the new site is on the old site, with some extra space taken from the adjacent elementary school. Engine 277 & Ladder 112 are currently bunking with Engine 222 & Battalion 37 on Ralph Ave.

In the Borough of Queens there are three volunteer houses on the far western end of what is called the Rockaway Peninsula or simply the "Rockaways". The communities of Roxbury, Point Rockaway and Breeze Point are about as far removed from a typical NYC neighborhood and still be within NYC.

Development began in the early 20th century, when the Rockaway Point Company rented tent sites to vacationers, most of them Irish immigrants. Land once owned by the city became part of the Gateway National Recreation Area in 1972.



Crossing the Gil Hodges Bridge across the Rockaway Inlet the first firehouse you come to is the quarters of the Roxbury Fire Department.

At the tip of the Rockaways is the Point Breeze Fire Department. Other then the apparatus you see in the bays I didn't have time to stop and get some pictures. Some of the apparatus these companies operated can be seen on Mike Martinelli's web site.

Great Spiral stair case in this house and one of the LAST like that on the Job. Shame if they do take this house o.o.s. Lot of good fireman started or cam out of here. Also its hard to tell here but it is a SMALL house on the block and if you are not looking - you MIGHT miss it!

As far as I know, the plan is to knock down Engine 201's house & using the vacant lot to the exposure 4 side of the building, construct a 13,000 square foot 3 story, 2 bay firehouse. This new firehouse would house Engine 201, Tower Ladder 114 & Battalion 40. The lot is about 5,000 square feet and this plan has been in the works since early 2005. The NYC Planning Commission approved the application in March of 2005.

By the way, Squad 1 is in the former quarters of Engine 269. I heard a rumor a few years ago that they might change the number to Squad 269. I guess that was only a rumor.
