Both companies were officially organized on April 10, 1946. Engine 54 had a 750gpm Ward LaFrance pump & a Chevrolet Hose Wagon and Ladder 33 had a City Service truck. The bridge opened on July 23, 1951 and Box 7611 was established for Long Island with a 5 Alarm assignment.

Best picture out of a batch of 30 pictures of it I took, glad you like it.



On a side note, those lights on it are powerful- you could easily see Rescue 1 a full four blocks away up Cambridge Street, didn't see police, EMS, or Cars 8 and 12 until two or three blocks away. It's a nice improvement, especially when in lower light and limited visibility areas(at least to me)

My partner and myself onsited one of thes jobs a couple of months ago. The urban outdoorsmen (homeless that won't or can't go to shelters) build mini encampments by placing plywood between the I beams on the underside of the bridge, and then take whatever they can use for insulation and cram it all in there. The fire we had was under the Cambridge St bridge in Allston on one of the nights where the temp was about 2 degrees. Engine 41 and Ladder 14 had to work on an ice covered hill to access the fire. I'm just happy no one got hurt at that one, as every aspect, right down to using water had the potential to be dangerous under those conditions.



Ladder 14 had the most fun, as they parked down below, and used their turnout gear as a sled to get down the hill after the job......I wish I had my camera for that one

Question: Has/will the old Rescue 1 (E\-One) under go any rehab work? Where will it be stored while not being used as R1 or R2. Also what will/did happen to the old spare rescue (Ford/E-One)?

-John P.[/quote]I'm not sure about rehabbing it, it's in pretty sad shape. The 1987 Ford/E-One was at Engine 29 last time I drove by, and comparatively, is in better shape. I would hope that they will keep both around, as there are two rescues in the city, and recently, they've had issues, as both had been OOS simultaneously with only one spare.



Firepics will go completely paid on 7/1/2007.

Beats me as of now. It was working fine on Monday night when I was driving the District 11 CHief and we went down to Division to drop off paperwork. The old E\-One Rescue is still in The Big House, behind Engine 10, so they're probably using that again. I'll try and find out when I go in in the morning.

They are indeed using their old rig, it was used last night during the building fire on Cambridge Street...

It was being towed to Minuteman, the local Pierce rep....why?, we don't know-yet. Skip should be making some calls today to find out why. This is probably the last Pierce you'll see in Boston for quite some time, as the new administration seems to want to go back to E\-One, with Engine 29 just placed in service, and 2 E\-One truck companies on order.

OUTSTANDING photos of 15 Truck and 33 Engine.



One question that I had and I've been to Boston before to see the Sox's at Fenway, and for the APCO conference in 2000. Was this station a larger station at one time? From the front of the building it appears that it may have been a huge station and may have been closed down except for the 33's and 15's apparatus doors. The rest of the building has the same arches. Interested to know.

33 and 15s house was always that size. There was a police station next door

The building to the left of the firehouse housed the Boston Police Department's Division 16 until 1976. From 1976-2007 it was home to the Institute of Contemporary Art, which is moving to the South Boston Waterfront. The building was purchased for $7.22 million this year by the Boston Architectural College, which is located directly to the rear of the firehouse on Newbury Street. The connecting arch between originally led to the stables where both the FD & PD horses were kept. Division 16 closed when the city consolidated into much fewer precincts.
