I don't know, the Olds 455 vs. the Caddy 472...they were both pretty badly underpowered and smogged-out after 1971.



Anyhow, as far as ambulances go, nothing beats a 454 powered Chevy. Why these people keep buying those crap Fords, I have no idea.

Here is a picture of that MACK while it was owned by ROSLYN FC. It is staged in the parking lot of the firehouse. This truck was nicknamed (not so politely) by a neighboring fire company as "the trash truck". This was because our township and others, were using the MB chassis for trash haulers. The truck was also controversial because it had attack lines, but no supply line (which was later changed to 50-100' of 3" to be fed by the next in pumper). I and others can attest to it being set for a great and quick knockdown power. In retrospect, there were a few shortcomings that should have been changed. Photographer unknown.

Additional info on that Springfield rig (I always liked the looks of this rig):



1961 Ford F-600/Pirsch, semi-cab, 750 GPM, referred to as the "puddle jumper", short-wheelbase, windshield glass and frame unusual in that type used on custom Pirsch apparatus, Pirsch ser. no. PG-64, ordered 12/20/60, 2QLD75-3 pump, driveway delivery 6/21/61. Sold to a private individual outside of Washington, DC.

Ok, now onto Dauphin County Fire Companies.



First is the Hope Engine Company No. 2 of Harrisburg City.



This picture was taken by an unknown photographer. It was parked on a side street during the big Vernon Building fire in Harrisburg.



This rig is a 1956 B-Model Mack and it now rest in the motorized apparatus bay of the Pennsylvania National Fire Muesam, which is located in the old Reily Hose Company No. 10 quarters in Harrisburg City.

Next up is the Citizens Hose and Engine Company No. 3 of Harrisburg City.



This is a picture of the Citizens old horse drawn steamer. Date and maker is unknown.

Next is the Paxton Engine Company No. 6 of Harrisburg City. There station is still standing and it is used to house City Tower 3 and the Reserve Tower.



This is Old Engine 6 - a 1958 B-Model Mack. Here is a picture of it when she was in service. Picture taken by Brian Glasmire

And here is a picture of her, now in private hands at the 2005 Dauphin County Volunteer Firemen's Convention in Hershey, PA. Here she is now minus the "Riot Shield's"

Next up is th Goodwill Fire Company No. 7 of Harrisburg City.



This is Old Engine 7, a 1923 American LaFrance.

Next is the Mt. Pleasant Fire Company No. 8 of Harrisburg City. This company is still in service with the Harrisburg Bureau of Fire. It is one of two remaining volunteer companies in the Bureau of Fire.



This is Old Engine 8, a 1962 C-Model Mack. It was placed in service on August 27th, 1962. On June 24th, of 1969, while it was responding to an alarm in the city during the race riot's, it was "bricked" as stones and bricks were thrown at the speeding apparatus, injuring four firefighters including the driver. $2,400 dollars of damage was done to the rig. Shortly afterwards the cab and tailboard were enlcosed with plexi-glas.
