Old Engine 25

1971 CF-Model Mack

Was sold to one of the members of the new company. He had it for a few years, and then he sold it to someone in the New England area. Last I heard it was turned into a moble bbq rig up there.

For example, posts # 2221,2224, and 2226 were taken by either myself, Dave Bowen, Ken Bacon, or John Floyd back in February of 1992. I'm guessing that you bought these at a Harrisburg muster off 1 of us, since 3 of us have sold photos there in past years... just like to see some credit, when and if possible.

Indeed it was. Fellow Firepicser Loot61 knows the owner and helped drive it home.

Frank,

Additional info on Berwyn's Mack:

1936 Mack Jr/Hale squad, open cab, 150/185. This was used as the first piece out, designated #1, Mack Jr. light to medium chassis built by Reo Motor Car Co. in their Lansing, MI plant for sales through Mack branches using Mack badging-produced in 1936-37 only, 2 pane contoured windshield. It was housed on 10/30/37. A two-way radio was installed and it was refurbed in 1951 by the Berwyn Auto Body Co which included new paint, running boards, a leather/foam seat, and new lettering by Clyde Lamp of Frazer – all done at cost. It was replaced in 1954.

Frank- additional info:

1929 Mack B-series Type 19 85 ft wood stick. This was one of the first deliveries of this model ladder. It was all powered and featured a lower profile than previously offered ladders. The main was raised from power supplied by the truck's motor. Ironically this accounted for its demise. In 1952 it was sold to Rockledge (Montgomery Co.),PA. It never had a windshield. Rockledge had an annual 4th of July parade. After the parade this truck was parked and was the target of kids of the community who climbed all over it. They managed to unknowingly activate the system which would cause the locked ladder to raise once the truck was started. Rockledge firemen later were enroute to nearby Huntington Valley where the ladder was to be raised and a peanut scramble was to ensue. Of course they were unaware of the ladder activation. While enroute the ladder was attempting to raise. It eventally buckled the trailer, overturned the truck and it crashed and it was demolished. Earlier in its life at Merion FC-Ardmore (Montgomery Co.),PA, the end of the main was broken while attempting to rescue a French poddle from Haverford College pond. This had been mended with a metal attachment.
