The racetrack is actually located in Henrico County. Fire Station 1, the base for the tech rescue team, is located directly behind the track (it's actually surrounded by RIR parking lots) at 110 East Azelea Ave. Also nearby is Fire Station 5 at Lakeside Avenue and Spruce Street and Fire Station 7 near the intersection of Laburnum Avenue and Mechanicsville Turnpike.
If you're specifically interested in Richmond City stations, Stations 14, 15, and 16 are located not too far from the track. You'll be able to find thier addresses on the RFD website.

I made it to both Station 1's Block Party/Open House on May 12th and the official 'Push-Back' for new Engine 18 on Sunday the 13th...both events were a blast and I gor some shots at each.
First the Block Party:
Quint 11's guys showed up for the festivities as well...Quint 11, parked on MArshall Street, just around the corner from Station 1
Station 1 had all of their rigs staged and on display on 24th Street, posing for the camera. L to R, Battalion 1, Water Rescue 1 with the boat trailer and Engine 1

Rescue 1. Color came out a little wierd on this one...lighting was tricky and I had to play in Paint Shop a bit.
The Fire Safety House made an appearance, of course.
Ok it's not a rig, but I had to add this one! The guys at Station 1 had just as much fun as the kids!

Next. Engine 18's 'Push Back' Richmond started a new tradition with this...in the days of horse drawn rigs, new rigs were placed in service with a ceremony known as a 'Push Back' or 'Housing'. The horses couldn't back the rigs in the bays, so, the first time the unit was backed into the station,. Dignitary's, the firefighters assigned to the station, and the citizens attending the Push Back got the job done in a dedication ceremony for the new ride.
Housings and wet-downs are common in the Northeast and always seem to be a blast, so the decision was made that a similar, if a bit more low key, tradition would be kicked off in The City of The Monuments with the Push Back for Engine 18. An open house was also held, and everyone had a great time.

GMC/Pierce Contender 1000/200. The rig also has CAFS i The rig was specifically designed for the narrow streets, narrow driveways, and low overhead clearances in Station 18's first due area, which includes the wealthiest areas of the city.

Rob, Good photos of the block party and of the 18's push back. Did you see all the "ribbons" the chief had? He must have the key to the ribbon case. They started a new program after he became Chief of Department and had back years of good service to give out the ribbons to all members.
What happened to the paint on Rescue 1? Did your camera missfire?

Hey John...Thanks! I noticed all the ribbons...eitheer keys to the ribbon case or stock in the ribbon company! That sounds like a great program... Chief Creecy seems to be a pretty decent guy, I was really impressed with him!

Ahhh (Rob puts two and two together!) They did start that a few years ago. And Paul Mauger was indeed sporting a goodly collection of them at CFD Company 13's 30th anniversary!

I notice there are no company numbers on them. Anyone know where they are headed? FS6, FS8, FS21, or elsewhere?

Jerry, only one can guess at this point. I will try to find out and post it. If they put them where the foam pumpers are now, that is at the 8's and 21's. However if they are going to run them along the expressways, then IMO, they need to be closer, but there is no room at other stations, unless they move something around and then the stock pile of foam at 8 and 21, do they take it to another house, no room for it or leave it there?? Yes, John. We completed shooting the entire City. I did miss a few rigs, but have not been back to get them. The door was broken at FS20, so we missed Engine 20. Also misssed Utility 5. I was waiting to see if Engine 18 would get a number, but so far it does not look like it will. I was also waiting for ex-Engine 18 (FRV) to move to Engine 20. Other than that we got them all. Really nice folks helped us at the City stations and Lieutenant Vida was very helpful!

Glad you got all the photos. Yes, they are nice folks to work with. We always tried to cooperate with those who wanted to see the apparatus and shoot photos of them, when I was there. Each house had a standing order to cooperate fully.
Any idea if the tankers/foam units are at Singers in Chester?

none of the units bought during the quint concept upgrades have airhorns to my knowledge other than maybe 14's quint (the prototype). They all have the vector sirne system that had an airhorn sound to it. not quite the same though.

There isn't a Ladder 1 in Richmond. All Quints and Engines. Electronic air horns, Vector System, on all quints. The auto shop were given directions to have them INSTALLED on all apparatus that was bought during the Quint purchased, a total of 31 units. They never did install them for what ever reason.
Quint 14 has Grovers in the front bumper.
The newer rigs have them.

LOL Yep kinda sorta like that. As I posted in that last post, the fire shop was given a letter to have Grover’s air horns installed on all 31 pieces. They as usual failed to do their job. Another reason they are making headlines and the chance to have it all work out sourced. Singer would be happy with that.
So are you going to be assigned to Rescue Co. 4 ??? When is the date that it will go into service?
