In 1947 Community FC-Harleysville (Montgomery Co.),PA purchased a Dodge chassis locally. It had a "closed cab" which was desired in winter weather. The chassis was sent to Harwick Mfg.in West Point,PA to have a custom body added. The full width, side compartmented, squad body was not equipped with a volume pump or booster tank. By 1954 it was determined that a water tank was essential therefore the company investigated the installation of one on this truck. It was concluded that it was too expensive to add the tank. It was therefore offered for sale and a new truck was ordered from Harwick with a built-in water tank. In 1954 the Dodge was sold to Westville,NJ.

re: Oldest Tank Wagoon in Bucks County

In 1934 Trevose FC (Bucks Co,),PA purchased a 1933 Chev chassis. They had Quaker City Iron Works-Phila build them a 500 tank body. This tanker was built for fire service-it was not a fuel carrier conversion. Fire company members mounted the tank on the chassis themselves. It was placed in service in 4-35. In March, 1948 the Readers Digest did a survey and proclaimed this to be the first tank truck designed for fire service. In the 1980s it was refurbed and exists today as an antique and parade piece at Trevose.
