By the way, Squad 1 is in the former quarters of Engine 269. I heard a rumor a few years ago that they might change the number to Squad 269. I guess that was only a rumor.[/quote]

During the early 1970's the Super Pumper System was stationed on Hooper Street along with Engine 211 and Ladder 119.

Again in the early 1970's, Engine 234 occupied this house on Bergen Street until they moved out and Rescue 2 made it their home.

Mack did an ad in Fire Engineering Magazine around 1974 featuring F.D.N.Y. receiving it's 1,000th Mack. The photo was of 234 Engine pulling out of the old firehouse onto Bergen St. with the Brothers stopping traffic.

I took a couple of pics yesterday and today of some former F.D.N.Y. houses. First up is 39 Truck's old house which they moved out of a little over a year ago when they were relocated to nearby 63 Engine and the 15th Battalion. 39 is the ONLY tiller in The Bronx.

39 moved into this house on Jaunuary 1, 1916 after being located in Manhattan. The house had been previously inhabited by the former Engine 69 (now a Harlem unit). Prior to that, it was part of the Yonkers Fire Department. This house is located at 243 East 233rd St. in the Woodlawn section of the North Bronx. As i was taking this pic, the local Bronx News 12 channel was doing a story about the old firehouse. The local residents are pretty pissed off that their firehouse was closed and moved to another neighborhood. The reporter was telling me that BloomTURD, i mean, Bloomberg announced plans to tear down this firehouse and build a new EMS station here. <img src='http://www.firepics.net/groupboards/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Rolleyes' />

Next up is 63 Engine's old quarters which is located at 4109 White Plains Rd in the Wakefield section of the North Bronx. This firehouse was constructed in 1909, and was occupied by 63 until September 17, 1971 when 63 moved into their current quarters at 755 East 233rd St.

This building is now the headquarters of EMS Battalion 15.

The building to the left of the old firehouse is the former home of the NYPD's 47th Precinct

Next up is 68 Engine's old firehouse which is located at 1080 Ogden Avenue in the Highbridge section of the Bronx. This firehouse was built in 1898. Ladder 49 was quartered here with Engine 68 from March 1, 1947 till they moved to their current quarters at 1160 Ogden Avenue on Sept. 19, 1979. Located DIRECTLY behind this firehouse is 49 Truck's former quarters.

68 Engine is first due to Yankee Stadium.

From Sept. 29th 1979 to July 1, 1982, this firehouse housed Salvage 5 which was a group of civilians under the control of a Fire Department Lt. or Capt., who went around and did Salvage work. The last of the Salvage units were finally disbanded in 1991.

This old Firehouse is also an EMS station now.
