Dunn Loring, Virgina in Fairfax County purchased two WLF's in 1976 for $79,000 each. Both had 1500/500.



One of the WLF's was sold to Evans City, PA. Here is a photo of that WLF while in service in Dunn Loring.

Dunn Loring, Virginia's second WLF was rehabed in 1983 by Pierce and kept by Dunn Loring until 1994 when it was sold - unknown who received it after it left Dunn Loring.

Bailey's Cross Roads, Virginia (also in Fairfax County) operated a 1969 WLF 1500/500. It was sold to Panama Fire Apparatus (broker) in Florida in 1982.

Alexandria, Virginia's Wagon 57 was this 1976 WLF 1250/500. I have in my records that it is serial number 80-1339 and sold to Panama Fire Apparatus (broker) in Florida. It ultimately ended up in Hallsboro, NC.

Also in Alexandria, Virginia was this 1978 WLF/Maxim 100' tiller that ran much of its career as Truck 55 and then spent time as a reserve truck. This photo was taken at the Alexandria FD shops in 1998 when it was a reserve.

I photographed Engine 411 in October of 1998. It is a 1969 WLF 1000/500.

I have the Sinking Spring RM(Ex-Rochester) as 80-1619.



Alexandria's tiller is 80-1632



Charlottesville is 80-1259



Beltsville had 3, a 1967 80-200 and 2 69's 80-323 and 80-324. they still have one of them in the back of Station 41.





Bailey's Crossroads is 80-347



Dunn Loring's 2 are 80-1289 and 80-1291

Thanks, Mike! The second Dunn Loring Ambassador was sold to Susan Moore, AL. They traded it in on a newer used rig last fall and it was at Brindlee Mountain.

The Dunn Loring/Susan Moore rig is still the same color. I'll post a shot of it when I get back from vacation.

There are? I see chrome wheel covers and front fenderettes and the siren speaker has been replaced by a Q2B. The homemade crosslays are gone and the hosebed extensions have been removed. The grab bar on the back has been changed and spotlights added. None of those are major changes. Now look at the details that are the same:



Marker lights and reflectors

Reflective striping

Front warning lights and turn signals

Treadplate trim on bottom edge of compartments

Pump panel layout

Axe holder

Small white (shoreline plug?) circle above axe handle is just visible behind grab handle on NAFA rig

The Middletown Fire District in Louisville, KY operated twin 1977 Wards with semi-open cabs, 1000-gpm pumps, and 500-gallon water tanks.



Engine 9033 #80-1347

Engine 9035 #80-1348



The Dixie Suburban Fire District, also in Louisville, later acquired one of the twins, #80-1347, as shown below, and lettered it Engine 3033.

The Jeffersontown Fire District in Louisville, KY operated 3 Wards that received new Pierce bodies later in life
