1ST aerial ladder truck for Bel Air VFD in Harford County was this 1951 Maxim 85' aerial which was purchased around 1970 from an unknown PA dept. (Hello, Howie!?). It served Bel Air until 1976, and was then sold to Quarryville,PA., where it ran until 1992.

A classic Pirsch snorkel served Singerly VFD of Elkton,MD. for many years. This photo of the big 1962 85' beast was taken in the early 1990's.

Laurel VFD still has this 1928 ALF Type 145 1000/80 engine, its nickname is "old Liz".

The 28 Alf got some opportunities after its last fire response in 1962 to throw some water, as in this burn drill on Marshall Ave in Laurel back in 1978.

In 1979, the 28 Alf was taken to nearby Rocky Gorge Reservoir to throw water at the local fish population.

Baltimore Vol. Rescue Squad was an active co. until the 1980's and this Cadillac/Superior ambo was their primary unit. Anyone know more about this outfit???

The 1st chief's vehicle for the Independent Hose Co. in Frederick, MD. was this gas-guzzling 1977 Ford LTD sedan, placed in service in 1981.

Urbana VFC in Frederick Co. was formed in 12/73, but their 1st fire engine did not get in service until 4/76 when this 1972 Ford F-750/Ward LaFrance 750/500 became E-231. The rig was purchased from a Honeywell Corp. facility in New Jersey.

Urbana VFC bought this 1962 Ford C street-flushing tanker from Montgomery Co.,MD. DPW surplus for $100 in 1976,and converted it to a fire tanker that carried 2200 gal. It served until 1985.

A well-known classic fire truck in Maryland is this 1955 Mack B85F with 750/150, and a 65' Maxim aerial. It originally served Waynesboro,PA., from 1955-1982, and then Woodsboro,MD. in Frederick County as Trk. 16 until 2005. It is now owned by a Hagerstown chief officer who also owns the local KME dealer.

According to info in the Arcadia publication 'Firefighting in Frederick County', this 1951 Ford tanker of unknown specs was originally with Guardian Hose Co. of Thurmont,MD., and was sold to Myersville,MD. for $1,000 in the late 60s.

This 1939 Ford/Howe 500 GPM was used by New Midway VFC in Frederick Co. It cost $3,675 when new and is shown here in private ownership in 1977 in a muster in Baltimore,MD.

This 1961 GMC/American 500/500 was 1 of 2 fire apparatus at the old Springfield State Hospital near Sykesville,MD. in Carroll County. This fire dept, has been gone for a long time.

A very nice Mack is this 1966 C-85F 750/750 that served Glyndon,MD.,in Baltimore County until 1997.

The Baltimore Vol. Rescue Squad was a group that was within the Baltimore City limits over in West Baltimore. If I recall correctly, they were on Dukeland St. or over that way. They were never allowed to run calls in the city, as far as I know. in addition to that Caddy ambo you have posted here, they also had a Chevy van set up as a "rescue" a step van, a boat and later on a Ford/Swab box ambo that had originally belonged to Woodlawn VFD. Baltimore Vol. Rescue Squad bought the Swab third hand from AA Ambulance, a private transport company that was over in Baltimore Highlands. BVRS mostly handled routine transports for donations. The ended up handling the neo-natal transports and more or less morphed into the City Hospital neo-natal transport unit before City Hospital became Bayview.

This 1938 IH/Darley 500/300 engine was in the process of being restored by the Long Green VFC in Baltimore County back in 1996 when both John Floyd and myself photographed it.
