1958 American LaFrance 800 Series 75' MM Aerial; ex Elkland, PA "Photo by bbstkr" Lindsay D Richardson, TX [/quote] Lindsay - additional info: I list this as being purchased new by the Philadelphia Steam Fire Engine Company-Pottstown (Montgomery Co.),PA in 9-59. Were 700 series built as late as 1959?? It is reported to be one of the last 700s built?? It was originally painted all red. In 11-73 after being scorched at a fire at the Hill School in Pottstown it was repainted by Hamerly white over lime yellow. Obviously the cab front lighting was upgraded at that time or before. In 1987 it was sold to Elkland (Tioga Co.)PA where it received the white over red paint job. In 1999 it was sold to a TX location.

The 900 Series was introduced sometime in 1958. The ladders still received the 700 designation until the 900 Series was introduced. Some of the 700 Series apparatus did have 900 Series type accessories such as headlights and turn signals. It appears I have incorrectly called this an 800 Series Ladder. I apologize to all of the ALF lovers on this site. Lindsay D Richardson, TX
An honest and easy mistake to make, Lindsay. You're forgiven. <img src='http://www.firepics.net/groupboards/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />
You're absolutely correct about the ALF Aerials receiving the 700 Series designation until the introduction of the 900 Series.

I'll have to admit it is different seeing you talk about American LaFrances. Keep it up. <img src='http://www.firepics.net/groupboards/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

I will hold forth about American LaFrance when I can, but don't overexpect. Lindsay D Richardson, TX

Interloper, ha! I think you'd look better standing next to that nice 1973 American LaFrance 1000 Series Engine that some random visitor drove to and from the muster. <img src='http://www.firepics.net/groupboards/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

I think the interloper wanted to stand next to a real classic. I don't recall a 1973 ALF 1000 Series but there was a 1972 ALF 1000 Series there. Lindsay D Richardson, TX |
