Virginia apparatus - miscellaneous
Here is what I really wanted at Gretna. This is an unusual rescue squad and I knew by the paint scheme that it had come from the Elsmere, Delaware VFD.

Rescue 228

1970 Imperial/Providence

Imperial serial number 1-507

18' squad body

Originally owned by Elsmere, DE. Sold to Pillow, PA. Gretna received in June of 2000.

When looking through the bay door windows, I thought it was a Hahn. Strong resemblence.

Gretna plans on selling this truck in the near future.

Back on the road to Danville I found the Blairs VFD on Route 29. Unfortunately, I was only able to photograph one truck from this FD.

Mike,

Great shots as usual. But, seriously, how do you luck on so much on the weather when you travel. I'm forever cursed with clouds!

KENTucky,

I agree. I was shocked when I saw Mike's photos from this week with clear, blue sky. It has been cloudy and overcast all week here in the Henrico County area. Being a good guy must pay off for Mike!

I had heard that once Aldie received their new Smeal Sirius, they had planned on selling the Dash to Loudoun County to be used as a reserve engine. I am not sure what happened to that plan but Aldie did sell the Pierce - to the Sterling Volunteer Fire Department, also in Loudoun County.

It now runs as Sterling Wagon 11 and is a 1996 Pierce Dash 1500/750 with job number EA083.

Several other interesting changes at Sterling. Quint 18 (one of two identical 2000 Spartan/Smeal 75' 1500/500) has been sold. The crew believes that it went to a FD in Indiana. In addition, they told me a new 105' Quint has been ordered, they believe from Smeal.

Ashburn, VA[/quote]They do seem to jump around a bit down there ! They have or had Pierce,Saulsbury,Smeal,LTI,and Seagrave and used both Spartan and Simon-Duplex chassis for the non single source companies.

Trust me Kent, I have had my share of cloudy and rainy days during my traveling. The last several trips, however, have been really nice weather wise.

Spent the morning in Danville, Virginia with a meeting and then had to be in West Virginia for a meeting the following morning.

Caught this ladder truck at Danville's Station 2 as I was leaving. I believe the Danville fleet is now red and white although they have some of the older trucks still in service in the old color as ex- Ladder 2.

Fincastle, Virginia is in Botetourt County not far from Roanoke, Virginia.

My travel had me go past the Fincastle station and I was fortunate enough to catch a county career crew on the medic unit. The station is in the process of having an expansion put on the back.

Fincastle's Wagon 4 was just recently placed into service. I really like this truck.

A Botetourt County medic unit runs from the Fincastle station. A somewhat unique station....it would be interesting to see the county order a fire truck in this color.
