this rig was loaned to the BFD in September 1906 by American LaFrance, it was a chemical engine and was equipped with two 35 gallon chemical tanks and was built on a Packard chassis....the BFD said the wheels were not heavy enough and they were correct and after a few weeks one of the wheels collapsed while responding and the rig went into an "EL" upright and was damaged, several members were injured including Dist Chief Ryder who went over the engine compartment and ended up on the street.....it was repaired and lasted until late winter when it was returned...Fire Commish Wells stated the city didn't have the $6,000 to purchase it.....BILL

love the strap on the hood... Looks like the photo was taken at the old HQ (Pine Street). A chain driven packard...
it was taken at Fire Headquarters and they told ALF about the wheels, I have the correspondence.....when it responded with E22 and L13 it was called "Chemical 13" and later when it responded with Ladder 12 it was called "Chemical 12"........
