Great pix! Anyone have an idea of the numbering system used? This is what I can decipher:

45xxx Special units such as armored vehicles

49xxx Large ESU trucks

52xxx Cars

53xxx ESU small trucks

54xxx Tow and Flatbed trucks

56xxx CFR trucks at airports

The first 4 numbers are the vehicle ID, the 5th number is the # of vehicles to have had that number. The numbers refer to the type of vehicle not necessarily the use

51xx and 52xx are cars (mostly marked but some unmarked - most unmarked start with a "0" and have a 3 digit #)

53xx are vans, suvs, small esu trucks etc...

54xx are wreckers

49xx - created for the larger ESU trucks - orginally had diffrent #'s - the one at JFK has 1012 for a PO that died on 9/11 - his shield #

45xx - created for specilized vehicles, incl armored vehicles

56xx/57xx are ARFF/fire vehicles

5800 and 5801 are ambulances at JFK

anything with an "S" prefix was purchased or obtained in reference to 9/11
