USAR 71 like all the USAR's on the Verdugo system is cross staffed, The crew of Truck 71 wii switch over and bring the USAR to an incident, Right now the USAR's respond only on USAR Incidents trench rescues, high angle rescue etc there is no policy in place yet for the USAR's to respond on fires but can respond if needed, LA County USAR's will respond on 1st alarm structure fire's if its in there Engine co's first in district or on 2nd alarm fires

Is there a big demand for USAR units in CA? I know there are frequent mudslides and such, but it seems alot of departments have them.

Well the the state OES might call them up for a USAR strike team, like for that large mudslide in Ventura county.



Why so many? Im guessing to be prepared for the big one. At the time of the Northridge earthquake LA City ad LA County did not have the USAR resources they have today and neither did many of the small depts. Monrovia1 any other thoughts on this?

The 11 Area C Verdugo cities have come together to form a Reigon wide USAR Task Force, Southern California is eartquake country so therefore lots of cities are equipping and training themselves with USAR tools and tactics its almost known that when the big one hits that the county and city will be to busy handling incidents in there area
