The only difference is staffing. All ladder co's are staffed with 4 and quints (Quint 27 & Quint 38) are staffed with 6.

Don't forget about quint 19 they also run with six. It is really fun trying to figure out what to do with six guys when they come on an ems assist. ladder and truck was just a verbage thing I think up until 01 or 02 they were called trucks now they are referred to as ladders.

Actually Quint 19 is now Ladder 19. I'm not sure when but Austin placed back in service Engine 19. I'm not sure if they got there old 95 Saulsbury back or they got Quality engine? Also on Oct 1 when 21's and 28's switch Brush Truck 28 went to 19's and was assigned Brush Truck 19. So now 19's is running an engine, ladder, & brush truck.

Speaking of ATCEMS is there any word when Medic 32 will be going into service? And is ESU 1 still at STARFlight hanger or did they moved to 42's?

As of right now, which comapnies are reffered to as "Ladder Co.'s" and which as "Quint Co.'s"?

Thanks.

as far as i know medic 32 is still a while off we are adding a new peak load unit with this years budget. there is talk of moving medic 19 or medic 27 to meet our obligation for avery ranch in 08 but i can not confirm. as far as i know the ESU is still at STARflight's hanger I have been off on FMLA for the past 4 weeks. the only sure talk i knew of was a new station in the Mueller development where the ESU will go along with a peak load unit and a regular unit but that is still a while off too. I intend to shoot the whole fleet soon including reserves the esu and starflight and I will share as I complete it

Thanks. Now I understand the difference in staffing between Ladder and Quint Co.'s in Austin. Now another question.

Is there any rhyme or reason to what type of rigs are assigned to quints or ladders besides they must be quints for quints?

Thanks.

What do you mean "Ex-Rescue 14"? I was under the impression that the New Quantum Rescue Squad had replaced Rescue 21 and not 14.

Actually both rescue 21 now 28 and rescue 14 are running new quantum rescues I believe rescue 14 is labeled as an 06 and rescue 21/28 is an 07 there are subtle differences with the 2 as I believe rescue 14 does not have the raised roof on its cab

Thanks for the information I was unaware that Rescue 14 had a new rig.

Speaking about "Special Operations" does the special operations battalion respond as the first due chief on all of the alarms that Stations 1,14,20 and 28 go on or is that only for "administrative" purposes that the special operations chief is assigned to those stations and do one of the other Battalions normally respond first due with the "special operations stations?

From what I have seen if it is a Spec Ops alarm high angle, trench, water, land rescue etc. the special operations battalion is always attached. AFD is very big on span of control and therefore a 2nd battalion chief is attached to most of those alarms and can cancel battalion 6 at his or her discretion
