THANKS, I spent several happy nights in that old firehouse when I was attending school at Ft. Monmouth NJ....I use to open the large wooden front doors, no electic door openers then...the kitchen table was just behind the Battalion buggy...not pleasant when the men were eating...it was close quarters and my favorite was when 4 Truck had a run and came straight out and turned down the side street....those were great days!!...bill

If you know the company number of those that can't be seen year and pump size of the rigs that sure would help us older guys as we view the past.

I figured i'd share this fantastic pic with everyone, as it was just forwarded to me by a friend of mine. Pic was taken by local Yonkers, NY fire photographer Joe Pinto.



58 Truck working on a fully occupied vacant. Appears to be in the late '70's, possibly early '80's. This was their 1974 Mack TL. This truck was later purchased at City Auction by the Maple Shade, NJ Fire Dept. and they ran it for many years. I believe they got rid of it around 2000-2001.

If I'm correct Battalion 9's bay was around the corner or on the west side ot Truck 4's old station.From the photo it looks to me like Battalion 9 was located in seperate building or possilbly and extension to rear of Truck 4's firestation.

While I'm from Chicago,the first time that I had visited New York City (in the summer of 1967) we were staying at the Midtown Motor Inn which was across 48th street and just west of the Fire House and from our window facing west I could see Battalion 9's bay and as well as Mama Leone's restaurant.That was the very first New York City Firestation that I had ever seen and I recall that Truck 4 was using an American La France Tilllered Aerial Ladder at the time.I was wondering was there ever any other fire units assigned to the firestation (before the current one was built) as it almost looks like Battalion 9 was in a seperate building?
