Heres a picture of the ladder before we bought it.
1976 Seagrave tiller fommerly from Boston,MA
|
There is a nearly identical rig parked behind a fire station in Danvers, MA. It was a 1975 Seagrave, also x-Boston. It saw service in Cambridge, MA as a reserve before being bought and refurbished by Essex County Fire Chiefs as a countywide reserve in the mid 1990's. It has been outside for almost 2+ years. There are pics elsewhere in the site somewhere.

Howie, That rig is not long for the world... Dep Chief Farrell tells me that it will be junked fairly shortly. I'll be at E2 tomorrow, I will try to get a serial #, maybe someone can tell us where in the BFD it served. Mike

Howie... the one Cambridge had was the same one that Chelsea was using prior to Cambridge.... after Cambridge had it...it was returned to Boston... they disposed of it.... 2 people purchased it.... it was stored in Quincy at the shipyard for a short while... the owners some how blew the motor...then I beleave they (The Owners) junked it.... I have pictures of it some place....cambridge patch with boston on the cab... that was about 4 to 5 years ago...
No photos of the truck in Boston. The truck looks the same in the pictures as of today.

If Joel buys any more rigs, his wife will kick his ***. He will then be sleeping on my couch. My wife will promptly kick MY ***, and when I regain my composure, I will have to kick his *** again. <img src='http://www.firepics.net/groupboards/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/stretcher.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> <img src='http://www.firepics.net/groupboards/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/stirpot.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

What are they going to do with it > Does DFD own it or the County ? 242 K[/quote] Jimmy, Technically the city of Peabody holds the title, so according to our higher ups, they are handling the disposal. I would imagine that anyone interested could probably pay a visit to Chief Pasdon and plead their case. This has happened numerous times before as some here may know. The truck was slated to be shipped to Australia via military transport but that fell through. There have been numerous inquiries into the rig over the years that seem to get caught up in " they own it, no we do, no its' the county, etc".

I was always under the impression that the Essex County spare was the former Boston, Cambridge one - but I recently found out it wasn't. The Chelsea/Cambridge was the former Boston ladder 7 and it did blow its engine on Route 3 north coming back from the Cape one day according to someone with a great memory. Your story and his jive...Thanks
The ladder is old ladder 4 piece in boston, also does anyone have pictures of the rig in service.

Are you sure this truck is old L4? L4 had a bell and distinctive gold leaf applied by a member. And i dont see L9 removing either, unless the shop would have and I doubt that. Plus, had heard L4's Seagrave was scrapped. When that piece left Dudley St. it was one tired puppy.....
As I know, the truck is old ladder 4, the bell hole is still in the front of the truck. Also the registration # is old ladder 4 piece. My dad thought it was old ladder 7 but after doing some research it was determined to be Ladder 4.

Nice. You guys have a truck with some great history. If that truck could talk. A big thrill for me is getting out and climbing up to "tiller" it back into the station after a run. And playing with the night stick and tear gas gun the tiller driver kept under his seat....
Looking threw some old photo's tonight...in books....all the 76 Seagrave's seem to all have bells on them..Ladder 11...L 15...L10 and some were also referbed by Middleborough Motors so that might be what happened to the gold leaf....
You also have to remember that was the time when the same companies (Busy Co's) use to get new rigs every few years and there rigs would get handed down... The 74 Maxim TDA that Quincy got for a buck... started out at 26 then 29 then 9..
There is a photo of L 4 on the Boston thread...
