Always loved this rig, as it was definitely a good example of "function over form;" the truck was easy to drive, and especially easy to maneuvre in tight quarters. Spent many tours detailed to this company while assigned to Quincy's Headquarters, and can remember many rides in the back of "Das Boot" (as it could be likened to being in the back of a WW II German U-boat-especially at night, and when the on-board generator would be kicked on by the driver when on "short final" approach to a scene).....couldn't see much from the back of the rig while riding in the box.



Notice the roof on this model (clearly seen in Mike's photo operating at a MVC at a notoriously bad intersection in the Wollaston section of the City) as it was modified by the folks at Saulsbury to fit its accomodations at Headquarters.

Newportville Fire Company Engine 821... purchased in August of 1981 was orginally Engine 12-3. Has 1000gpm Hale pump, 500 gallons of water and ground ladders on both sides of the rig.

Of all the Canadian Ford fire apparatus, do any other than the Vancouver Super Pumps have Detroit Diesels? I noticed a lot of them have raised cabs.

Back in the 70's, it was popular to have the big detroits put in Ford C's in Canada...Toronto, Ajax, Missisauga, London etc all had them.....It made them stand very high...and ya gotta love the sound of those old detroits.....there are a bunch posted in different places here.....
