New Jersey State Police Medivac Helicopter, N5NJ, known as Northstar. Northstar covers the northern half of the the state. Southstar, an indentical Sikorsky S-76, covers the southern half of the state.

I took this shot on 10/9/01 as Northstar was departing the L/Z with a victim of a motor vehicle accident. I was the chaueffer/pump operator. This shot shows another advantage to top-mounts-excellent photography vantage point!

Living close to the NY border here in northern NJ we occasionally get Stat-Flight from either Westchester or Orange County, NY.

Here is the Westchester County bird about to touchdown at our L/Z on June 26, 2003.

On the ground with the flight/medical crew prepping the ship to receive the patient. Wanaque FAS Car 68, one of two 1998 Braun/Fords has just recently been retired and replaced with a 2006 Road Rescue/Ford ambulance.

And finally, hot-loading the patient. I forget what the nature of this call was but I believe it occured in Ringwood, NJ, our neighbor to the north. Apparently our ambulance responded on mutual-aid and I believe that the Skyline Lakes FC (Ringwood) member assisting with loading the patient rode in our ambulance to assist our ambulance crew. My fire department (Wanaque FD) provided the L/Z standby since the L/Z is in Wanaque. Gotta start taking better notes when I'm taking pictures..... <img src='http://www.firepics.net/groupboards/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/oops.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Oops' />

Tim, those are indeed Thunderbirds in that photo. I'd gone down to Opalaka Airport in North Miami to shoot the Thunderbirds and happened to get shots of that helicopter and some other aircraft (one of my other loves).
