Mike great pics as usual. Any reason why Loudoun County is not using the COG numbering in county? I know Alexandria, Arlington, Fairfax and Dulles and National respond much more autoaid into each others jurisdictions but it just seems that if you buy into the COG numbering you should just get used to using it.

Dave, in my opinion, it is just a slow process of transitioning. It took awhile for apparatus to appear with the new numbers on them. It started out with apparatus having both numbers on them (i.e. Ashburn - "6" and "23" in large numbers on the doors and the smaller "606" and "623" on the front bumpers). Now the COG numbers are being added on more and more of the apparatus - mostly new trucks entering service.



I think it is just a matter of time before we use the COG numbering within county responses.

This week I had the unplanned opportunity to hook in with Jerry Puryear and John Friis in the Richmond, Virginia area to spend some time visiting some fire departments around the Richmond area. Thank you Jerry and John for a fun afternoon.

Hagen was a local manufacturer in the Hanover County area that we had some previous discussions on in this thread. Hanover operates some unique brush trucks built by Hagen.



Court House Brush 5 is a 1979 Ford F250/Hagen with a 300/150.

After Court House we headed north a handful of miles to Frog Level, Virginia in Caroline County. This is one FD that I have always wanted to visit. We got some help from Court House - they made a call to a member who came down to Frog Level to meet us. I understand you don't find to many people at the station on a weekday. They made our visit very enjoyable and were even washing apparatus when we arrived to clean them up from a recent call.



First up at Frog Level is their Engine 5, which is still marked as Engine 51 (old designation).

Two brush trucks operate at Frog Level.



Brush 5 is also marked in its old designation of Brush 55. It is a 1996 Dodge Ram 2500/EEI (Butler) 300/200.

And the final brush unit at Frog Level is their Jeep 5 (marked Brush 5-1) which is a nice 2003 Jeep Rubicon with a 80 gallon water tank.



I think that one will fit in my garage - nice!

Last stop of the day was way out in the woods in Hanover County. John Friis and I had complete trust in Jerry getting us there....eventually. Yea, complete trust.



Hanover County's Black Creek Station 12 is I believe the last all completely volunteer station in the county (correct me if I am wrong guys). My understanding is that they will be getting career staff in the near future.



First up at Black Creek is Engine 12, a 1988 PemFab Royale/FMC 1000/750. We were told this was Hanover's first four door engine.



A couple of questions on this truck - In addition to the PemFab plate, it also had a small plate for TCM - Truck Cab Manufacturer. Was one company owned by the other? We were also uncertain on a serial number for this engine. The pump panel had 8002. Would any serial number expert recognize this as a FMC serial number?

Large water duties are handled by Black Creek's nice Tanker 12, a 2004 KenWorth T-800/Pierce complete with a 1000/3000. It has Pierce job number 15667.

Brush 12 is a 1977 Chevrolet Scottsdale 20/Hagen that had a local rehab completed in 1990. 300/150.

Utility 12 at Black Creek is a 1996 GMC 3500 HD/Omaha/Interstate.

John Friis and I were not leaving until we got FR-12.



FR is for First Response. Hanover County also uses brush trucks as FR units, which also respond to EMS calls.

Company 1 (Ashland) is also 100% volunteer.



Also, FR12 is the only FR unit in the county that's a Suburban. The FD's were given the option when they got their FR's to get extended cab pickups with a skid unit, or the Suburban. Only 12 selected the Suburban.
