Here is a shot I took, probably in 1970, of the then quarters of E 207, L 110 and the 31 Battalion at 365 Jay Street, the former headquarters of the Brooklyn Fire Department. A sign in the stonework above the entrance spelled out HOOK AND LADDER 68. In 1913 L 68 was reorganized as L118 when FDNY needed to renumber all Brooklyn companies to conform with a city wide plan. To end the confusion with like numbered companies in other boroughs they added 50 to all of the ladders and 100 to all of the engine companies.
In this present photo, if you look closely, it looks like there are some unusual letters (RESC) visible in the stonework to the left of the sign. By the way Rescue 2 was quartered here from 1929 to 1946, E 207, L 110 and the Battalion moved on to Tillery Street in 1971 with the Super Pumper. The house was sold and a commercial business moved in. I don’t know what year the building was constructed or have any historic info for the site during the BFD era. Maybe somebody out there can add some incite.
I saw a photo of this house back in the 1900 that the lettering you thing was RESC read FIRE HEADQUARTERS in teh stone arch way. might have been what you saw as RESC

It was reorganized to Engine 207 on January 1, 1913. Ladder 110 was originally organized as Ladder 10 of The Brooklyn Fire Department on August 1, 1891. It was later reorganized to Ladder 110 on January 1, 1913. Looking at this house, it appears to be around before. My guess would be in the 1890's. Probably when then Ladder 10 went into service on or about August 1, 1891.

Great pics of a good subject--the house for E249/L113 is beautiful!
Last I heard plans were a go to build a new firehouse adjacent to Engine 201's quarters at 5113-5117 Fourth Ave in Brooklyn. E201 is located at 5113 Fourth Ave and TL114 is at 5209 Fifth Ave. Engine 201 would be relocated, their house torn down and the new house built on the lot and the vacant lot to the right of the firehouse. Battalion 40 would also be located at this new house. Perhaps one of the Brooklyn guys floating around could offer any updates as it concerns construction etc...
201's house was torn down and a new one is being built. 201 has temporarily been moved to the former quarters of E-278.
Nice shots--the houses for E243/L168 and E353 are great looking.
Does anyone photos of the house they are building for I think its rescue 2 under construction.
