I was pretty sure I'd seen this one before, so a trip to the bookcase was in order. From 'Ambulances' by Chris Batten, Shire Publications, 1996, p27:

"REEVE SOVAM 'CONCORD'

In 1971 Reeve Coachbuilders took over the ambulance side of Smith-Appleyard of Gateshead and a project to build a vehicle based on a chassis by the French Company Sovam; . . .The LAS ordered the prototype. . .which was delivered in January 1973. No more were ordered but the prototype has been preserved."

It's pictured next to a 1968 Dennis prototype which bears a startling resemblance to a Matchbox toy I had as a kid. Both were early attempts to design a rig for field treatment instead of just transport.

BTW Pete, I love the old Morris and Austins with the bells on their noses. Cool.

John,

Yep last one sold by Braun.

I sold 4 of them last year and 1 air ride.

This year it's been a steady diet of Chevy so far, but I have one Ford that's looking 70% or better! When I first got into this business I never thought I would have trouble selling a Ford, Boy how times change!

Thanks for the comments.

Yes, Braun no longer will build a Non-Air ride C-4500. A few bad apples ruined it for everyone. I sold 4 of them 3 are very happy 1 is so so on the ride. Then again had I known that the county only grades the dirt roads once a year in April, I would have never recommended a non-air ride chassis for them.

IMHO, the ride is like a 7 on a scale 1-10, where as an air ride would be a 9.

The problem came on a national scale when some customers complained loudly about ride, and Bruan just decided it was not worth the fight. I have one customer who wanted to purchase a second one, so I think it came down to what you expected the ride to be, and two what conditions you operated in.
