The way it was explained to me was EST or Emergency Support Truck was a 2 man rig. It was like a Mini Pumper designed to make a quick response and knock down. I think the 2 in 2 out rule kind of put this concept out.



Patrols were used mainly before telephones to Patrol brush areas and watch for fires. These also where to get there fast and hopefully put a brush fire out BEFORE it got big. I think now they are used as most Brush Trucks are in other areas.

An EST which is not thought of to highly in by the rank and fille members of LACoFD serves to provide addtional manpower on scene of a structure fire in addition to covering incidents in there first in area and battalion they also respond into neigboring battalion's. EST's are assigned to 145,85 and 33.
