This looks like it might have been the demo that was floating around up here in Maryland for a few months.

After looking back through a couple of pages on my thread it was indeed a demo I shot back a couple of months ago.

I finally got more film developed and have begun sorting pics from the past month. The day I shot Fairburn's Velocity, I also shot this International/Blue Bird "Safety Bus", converted into a fire safety house from an old school bus.

A few days later, I ventured down to Peach County, GA. I was in search of their ladder truck, described on their website as a "1986 Grumman with a 111' Grove ladder"............ I was curious, as Grove never built anything over 100' and was out of the business long before 1986. My first stop was Station 1.

This rig came from an unknown Pennsylvania town that also used to run a Sutphen pumper that later ran as Peach County E-1 until 2005 when it was sold to Houston County, GA. A mural of the Supthen is still on the side of Tanker 1. If anyone recognizes this rig, let me know.

Here is Ladder 1. At first glance, I realized that it was no 111' and that it was probably older than the 1986 they claimed it to be, but I wasn't all that impressed. I began digging through the rig, getting a look at the dataplates and writing down whatever numbers I could find. It turns out that it is a 1981 Duplex D-300 chassis with Grumman bodywork, #16194. I was still somewhat confused because the Grove ladder had to be older. I asked if the rig had ever been refurbed, but they said that they didn't think so. Then one guy said that he had been told that the ladder was built in 1969 and had been removed from another rig. Next, I asked if they knew where the rig came from before they got it. One guy went inside and called an older member. When he returned, he said "New Castle, PA". Suddenly, it all clicked! I began jumping up and down like a lunatic, screaming "HOLY CRAP". They musta thought I'd lost it, but I soon regained my composure and told them this rig's history:

Back in 1961, FDNY took delivery of two Mack C-85 chassis equipped with 146' Magirus rearmount aerials. In 1969, the Magirus aerials were removed and replaced by 100' Grove ladders. One of these rigs, assigned to Ladder 164, was later sold to New Castle, PA. After a few years in service there, the ladder was removed and placed on a new Duplex chassis. Grumman did the remount in 1981.

So, here's a shot of their x-FDNY ladder.

On April 7th, I met fellow apparatus nut Jon U. in South Carolina for four days of shooting. Part of that time, we were joined by Andrew. Since he has already posted some of that stuff in his thread, I'll post the other stuff here. We can always hope, but I doubt Jon will post anything (Go ahead, prove me wrong!).

We began the day under "cloudy-bright" skies in Anderson County.

The Anderson County Volunteer Fire Department is made up of 27 Stations surrounding the City of Anderson. Some apparatus are purchased by the County and some by the volunteers through fundraisers. Previously, Jon and I have shot eleven stations and we added three more this trip.
