The rig finished it's service in Chesterfield as Unit 127 (Truck 12) but was originally assigned to Station 3 as Unit 37, and was the first Aerialscope to go in service in Chesterfield County. The rig was also the only one in the county (That I recall ) to ever sport twin Mars Lights.



The 75 footer was replaced by a 95 footer sometime in the mid to late 80s, and became a reserve piece for a short period of time. Truck 12's open cab Pirsch was beginning to show it's age in a big way by then, so that rig was taken out of service, and old Three truck was assigned to Station 12 as Unit 127.

I heard a rumor that the LFD Arrow XT was an LAFD demo and was bought in a pinch after Engine 6 and Engine 4 were wrecked while on a call. I think Engine 6 rear-ended Engine 4 and then the fire shops placed the chassis (both KME's)from one truck together with the body from the other. they turned it into another reserve engine.

CCRS, that's partially correct. While the Arrow XT purchased (which is the only Arrow XT in the Lynchburg fleet) was a demo, it wasn't specifically built for LAFD (wrong shade of red for one thing). It was simply a stock demo. It is true about the two wrecked engines being mated together after they struck one another responding to an incident.

Rob, you generally have a better recall of CFD information that I do, but I though that when this rig was at FS3, it was replaced by another 75' model, although the second one was a dual axle - the one that's now effectionaly called "Big Nasty" running as the reserve truck from FS9. Thoughts, corrections?

Thanks Mike. Ruckersville was one of my last strike outs. Tired twice. Second trip found a young man there washing his car, and I got all excited, but he was not a driver. I've been chasing the Tower for some time. Nice catch!

Taylor you might be right at that...now that I think of it, the rig that replaced the original 'Scope at #3 was a dual axle 75 footer.



That rig was also the first major rig in the county for many years to be delivered without a 'Q', a short lived trend that has since been rectified in Chesterfield.

Mike: Saulsbury built two of these Brockway tankers for Lynchburg, I am not sure what happened to the second unit.

I think on of the Lynchburg tanker is in-service in Johnson City Tenn. I remember talking to on of the guys at Lynchburg's shop and he told me that

one of the Brockway's was in not too good of shape so they put it on the auction block and it was sold to Johnson City Tenn.

I do? haha Did the city of Johnson City FD own it, or was it owned by a VFD in the Johnson City area? That's one rig I've never found down there. If somebody will tell me where its at, I'll hunt it down, because thats an awesome truck!

It is no longer in service. I have no idea where it went. JCFD no longer has a tanker in service as the county has a mutual aid agreement if they ever need a tanker. Most of the places in JC are very well "stocked" with hydrants with good flow. The only time I have seen them need assistance was on the interstate with a large TT fire. That truck was stored at Station 3 on E Main St for a long time. That is now the home of MP29 which has a good sized tank on it. I would say it has been at least 6 years or more. They also had a Ford C/ALF and a Pioneer I that disappeared a couple of years ago before I could get pics.

I made a quick stop by the Lake Jackson VFD in Prince William County, Virginia. They operate a new Boat Support 507, which replaces an older ambulance that was used.



This truck basically carries water rescue equipment. It can tow a smaller boat if needed, but I was told a utility truck would often perform that function.
