Nice looking rigs. Too bad International is going to wreck the 4500 chassis.
I really like the looks of that Bulverde-Spring Branch unit, do you have any PICS of it with graphcis applied?
The Wimberley unit has an interesting looking push bar / extended bumper. I assume thats for wildlife catching. HA HA!!
Up here the deer seem to just go right under those 4500's. Now the Elk heard is a different story, luckily I don't know of any run in's with ambulances yet. Althought the Elk heard has led to 13 deaths in the last 4 years due to car/Elk crashes.
Here is a shot of the Bulverde-Spring Branch 4500 with the graphics. They still haven't decided whether they're gonna go with the front end replacement grille guard like Wimberley, hence no grille lights yet. They ordered them "loose" because they were affraid the grille guard would block them, however, Wimberley turned out fine so we'll see what they decide next week. By the way, that is the first "flip down" grille guard we have had done on a 4500 and it turned out great I think. There are just so many darn deer in the Texas hill country that these grille guard-bumper replacements are pretty common here.
I'm telling you, the '09 Chev 4500 availability is gonna be a mess from what I hear. Figures doesn't it? Just when something starts going good, well, you know....
Austin-Travis County EMS is a seperate 3rd service public saftey agency, not a part of Austin Fire-Rescue. The vehicle pictured above is driven by the homeland security district commander (TDO-2) and the StarFlight division commander has one almost Identical. Any staff commander or chief that may actually respond such as the terrorisim duty officer has this type of truck, others such as executive command are issued crown vics, explorers, or tahoes. Our new District Command vehicles will be set up very similar to this but with a paint scheme that matches our ambulances.
Speaking of the new DC's I shot one today at the 2nd alarm apt fire at the Water Gate Apts. What are the plains for the old DC units?

Thanks for the info, NinjaMedic! Any reason why they're abadoning or not remounting the Frazer command vehicles? Will they be disposed of, or given another life as a support unit???
I cant say for sure what the plans are for them eventually but some of them are over 200,000 miles by a good margin so not a whole lot of life left in the chassis I was kind of hoping they would remount but our city is not real keen on that kind of thin I dont think, but we are changing basically due to cost I believe. The money that was going to the frazier body can now go to all vehicles having 4 wheel drive, winches, and satalite comms. Hopefully some of the frazier units that are a little younger could move to support roles, especially move one to medic 10 for their training and maintenance responsibilities since they fix all of the dept scba's, gas monitors, rad meters etc.
Wow I didn't know that some of the old DC units had that many miles on them.

Yeah we dont get rid of units until 250,000 and we dont PM them either we just fix the problems that absolutly have to be fixed and get them back out on the streets. I have had to get in in 3 trucks in one day before and some people have done 4 I think 5 change outs may be the record maybe only 4 im not sure. Makes since right? <img src='http://www.firepics.net/groupboards/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

Williamson County EMS (Austin Metro area) has begun taking delivery of new 2008 Ford F-350/Wheeled Coach ambulances. I believe the initial order was for four (4), all of which have been delivered to the WCEMS shops.
This is a switch from the previous purchases from MedTec (although it's the same dealer). Also, they are brand new chasis and not remounts.
Scott and White Hopsital EMS has taken delivery of two (2) 2008 Chevrolet/Wheeled Coach CitiMedic Mini-Mods. They are not in service as of yet, so assignment is pending.
You are correct...there were 4 NEW Wheeled Coach Custom Series type I's on this contract that have been delivered and 3 REMOUNTS, 2 of which have been delivered. All 2008 Ford 350 chassis. The current contract was for these 7 units, however, I expect they will order another combination of new and remounts in the next few months. They typically run them 3 years and then remount them once and run for an additional 3 years. They take VERY GOOD care of their units so remounting makes good sense for them.
