ARE THERE ANY PHOTOS OF THE 65 INTERNATIONAL SQURT THAT 43'S AND 72'S HAD?

Can anyone familiar with Philadelphia Fire Dept. advise if this apparatus, PFD Snorkel 28, is still in service? I will be in town this fall for the annual Philadelphia Fire Expo and would like to plan to shoot this rig if it is still around... don't see many snorkels in frontline service anymore.

I believe Snorkel 28 was just recently taken OOS after catching fire after making contact with a power line. I think Snorkel 2 or 5 was also just replaced with a new KME tower ladder...

3 Snorkels in the City 2,5,28....Alot of rumors concerning the Snorkel Companys in the city

5's just got replaced with 08 KME Tower

2's Still in service with 97 KME Snorkel

28's KME is rumored to be totaled. Also they are rumored to get the 2nd KME tower. And since there KME Snorkel is out they are rumored to getting Snorkel 5's old piece 95 Pierce.



The muster gets over late in the afternoon, So you might not have sun but just like anywhere else just stop by the particular house and ask.

There was a huge flood in Elmira, NY that affected both American LaFrance and Ward LaFrance fire aopparatus that were being built at that time. The Philly Wards were all out of service by 1980 when I visited Philadelphia. They were already rust buckets because they had been involved in the Elmira flood. They all sat in the PFD yards in 1980 while much older IHC commercial-built apparatus was still in first-line service in Philadelphia. Chicago had the same problem with their American LaFrance pumpers that were also involved in the Elmira flood.



Here are just a few of the 1971 Wards that sat in the PFD yards in 1980, all taken out of service because of premature rusting.

Here is the only photo (in the PFD shops) that I have of the "Tower Pumper" that served at Engine 8, which was a 1975 model Ward LaFrance 1000/300/54', WLF #80-1095, which was delivered on 5/1/1975.

In this not-very-good photo of one of the 1972 ALFs sitting at the shops at the end of its career, you can plainly see the rust above the windshield. So sad.

If they took this rig out of service due to that bit of rust........... <img src='http://www.firepics.net/groupboards/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/hysterical.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> Then they should probably take most of my job's (FDNY) Seagraves out of service. We have an '03, and we're getting ALOT of big rust spots and bubbles all over it.

Marc, thats because Seagrave had some major paint preparartion problems during the late 90's and early 2000's. Remember me telling you that portions of Squad 13 have been repainted 3 times because of bad paint.
