It appears that it has two different fuel tanks (two different colored gas caps)? Do these units have gas-powered generators on board for any reason or just two diesel tanks?

Rigs built by Frazer have a separate generator (diesel, I believe) that powers the module itself independent of the engine. I don't know much about them as to why they are manufactured like that, however I know that a lot of EMS agencies down there in The Lone Star State swear by these types of ambulances. Perhaps John or one of our other Texas hombres can be of more information.

Looks like that truck has a gas fill and a diesel fill. The generators should be gas, as Ive been told that a quiet enough diesel one in that size cant be found and the gas ones are easier to deal with. So many departments in south Texas like the Frazers due to the large A/C units with the heat they have. Acadian uses alot of Frazer and Excellance genny units for that reason. It also cuts down on chassis wear and makes remounts easier. My Acadian unit is a genny unit and I wouldnt have anything else. With summer temps in the south so hot it is nice to get in my truck and have to turn the A/C off due to it being too cold in the box.
Jay,
shfd739 pretty much answered the generator question. In generator spec'd units I sell, Wheeled Coach uses a diesel generator and the down side is the noise and weight. The up side is being diesel, you don't have to have the extra gasoline fuel tank and there is less chance of an EMT or paramedic half asleep at 2am putting gas in the diesel or vise-versa. To be fair however, Frazer will sell you gasoline powered chassis (Chev or Dodge) so that problem wouldn't exist. Even though I sell another brand, I will admit that Frazer has its "pros" and "cons" (like most manufacturers out there), and most folks that use them seem to like them. Thank God everybody likes something different and "one size doesn't fit all" <img src='http://www.firepics.net/groupboards/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> John Anderson San Antonio, TX <img src='http://www.firepics.net/groupboards/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/usa.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

My unit was remounted last year onto the new style Chevy with a Duramax. Our previous chassis was an '02 Chevy with the 6.0 gas engine. The gas was quieter than the diesel and wound up being more reliable with fuel use almost even; heck the truck went to 260k miles with no major engine repairs. Only downside was less power with alot more foot to the floor trying to get up to speed moments than in the Duramax. Another plus of the gas chassis was the genny pulled off one of the chassis tanks so there wasnt a special tank to fill. If I remember right the only time we've had gas in the diesel tanks was intentional on the crews part for whatever reason. I dont recall any diesel going in the gas tank.
Thanks for the replies about the trucks, I like the idea of the separate generator, nothing like that up here in my part of Massachusetts.

The closest is in New Britain, CT, which uses a frontline Frazer fleet: http://www.emtbravo.com/FeaturedFleets/NewBritainEMS.html Seth Granville

Seth (TacSupport1),
2 more Austin/Travis County EMS 2009 International-Wheeled Coaches will probably deliver Monday. Also, 1 2008 Ford F-350 remounted Medtec will also deliver Monday to Williamson County EMS. Also, the first 10 out of 19 new 2008 Ford F-350 Wheeled Coach type I's will deliver to Dallas Fire-Rescue first part of next week. Ex-Medic 612 Chevrolet/Collins
This is an interesting ambulance, I was wondering what color combination that lightbar is. It appears to be blue in the center section, what color(s) are contained within the clear lenses? It's also nice to see a Chevy ambulance, for some reason Ford Econolines dominate the EMS market. I should specify I'm refering to the white/blue striped 1980's Buffalo, Texas Chevy ambulance.
The center light is blue, there was also a blue mini lightbar on the rear. The clear lenses had red rotators.
