Info on the Oley rig (From Al Powell’s files)





1948 Mack LS85 , 3-door conv.sedan cab, 750/350, $18,500, housed 6-5-49- in later years converted to 5 inch hose wagon, had strong motor and dependable pump which was used to supply 5 inch hose until sold, in active service for 43 years, in 1991 sold to Cal Little-Hummelstown,PA in 1993 re-sold to an individual in CO, in 1997 reportedly for sale, delvd 7-48, chassis no.1219.





Info on the Leesport rig (From Al Powell’s files)



1946 Mack 85LS, open-cab conv., 750/500, cab windshield- painted frame, painted radiator shell, $9438.66, 205 HP motor, delvd June,1946, additional $2000 for hose and equipment, booster reel at back step, large spotlight and bell mounted at officer’s cowl, housed 10-19-46, in 1-71 repainted by Ron Hamerly for $1196, in 1988 sold to Marvin Kauffman-Rehrersburg,PA (aka as Kauffman’s Bar-B-Que Ranch and Minature Golf-Bethel R.D.,PA),on 5-20-00 appeared in 100th Anniv.parade and Celebration, chassis no.1079





Info on the Millfift rig (From Al Powell’s files)



1964 Maxim S-series, conv.semi-cab, 750/500, 2 reels on top, quad removable canvas cab roof, model S-2627-C, housed 7-17-65, in 1991 donated to Millrift (Pike Co.),PA, in 2000 returned by Millrift for $1-returned to service as second out engine, seen 9-6-03 completely repainted and relettered in Conshohocken parade, seen 3-11-06-all diamond plate painted dark gray color, original gas motor-converted to diesel

To go along with the other Ludwigs Corner posts, here is a 1956 Ford/American Lafrance 500/500 that previously served in Indian Head Maryland. Pictured the day we picked it up about 1980 after we purchased it. It had some nasal surgery after a mishap pulling out of the Indain Head station which explains the later style grille. It was later sold to a used fire truck dealer who sold it, oddly enough, to a Indian Reservation in Oklahoma.

1951 Mack L-85/Snorkel, semi-cab, 750/250, 55' snorkel. This was purchased used in 1976 from the Paoli Fire Company (Chester County). Paoli did the conversion in 1970. It was housed on 9/10/77. It was taken out of service in July of 1993 after 42 years of service and sold in early 1994 for $3,100 to Frank Copotosto of Newtown Square (Delaware County) who leased it to the Forest Lake Fire Company (Susquehanna County) for a $1 a year. Frank’s son is a Asst. Chief there. Frank was not the highest bidder, but the company wanted to give it to a company, not a collector.





Bristol (From Al Powell’s files)



1966 Mack C-95, semi-cab, 1000 gpm, repainted by Jim Johnson-Bristol, co.motto THAT OTHERS MAY LIVElettered across cab front, maltese with ribbons above and below on cab doors, in 1984 retired from service, in 1991 in storage available for sale, by 2004 in junkyard in Croydon





Ludwigs Corner



1956 Ford F-700/American LaFrance, full cab, 500/500, 292 CI V-8 gas motor, 5-speed manual transmission. It was purchased used from the Indian Head Fire Company of Maryland in 1973 for $1. It was repainted LY in 1974.



gfd 1 – by any chance would you have the following shots from Ludwigs Corner ?



1951 Ford/American LaFrance, full cab. It was purchased used from the Thorndale Fire Company (Chester County) in 1972 for $1. The company had it only a short time when the pump seized and the truck had to be scrapped.



1950 International KB8/Stauffer, full cab, 250 GPM Hale rotary pump and a 1000 gallon tank. It was purchased used from the Kimberton Fire Company (Chester County). It was sold in 1984 out of the fire service.



1959 Ford F Tanker, full cab, 250 PTO/1800, painted steel elliptical tanker - purchased used in 1975 from the Susquehanna Fire Company of York Haven (York County) and sold in 1983.

The 1966 Mack From Bristol is not in a Junk Yard. It sat in the engine room of the Bristol Borough Municipal Building from 91 to 04, and was sold to a collector from Glick Fire Apparatus, of Bird in Hand Pa. He was supposed to restore it, I havent heard anything on it in a while. I will see what I can find out.

Hello all



My Department(Robert Fulton Fire Co) in Lancaster PA. is looking for if any of our old trucks. one of them was a 1936 Dodge open cab pumper which was purchased from the Willow Street Fire Company. Then then second piece of apparatus was a 1941 International five man enclosed cab. This engine held 1000 gallons of water and was purchased from a fire company in Milford Delaware. And a 1963 C850 Ford pumper with a 750 gpm pump and 800 gallons of water. and was later sold to a fire company in Alabama. Here's a Dave Bowen shot, he sez it was a 74, these were an attempt by Bean-FMC to build a "budget" custom pumper, using special Spartan cabs on (usually) GMC chassis.

Additional info on the Sellersville FMC (from Al Powell’s files)



1972 Ford/FMC, canopy custom cab forward, 750/500, separate Bean high pressure fog, was FMC demo before purchased-titled in 1976, 2 covered booster reels on top, referred to as "Casper the Friendly Ghost"-painted on front cab sides, purchase cost along with aerial in 1974 was $136,000, 534 ci gas motor, 5-spd man trans, titled in 1976, in 1999 equipped with 1000 ft 5 in.LDH, 4 KW generator, in 5-99 PAFM pg 214 offered for sale-asked $25,000 obo, after 11-17-99 accident with Spartan/FMC-had been stripped and available for sale-re-equipped and placed back in service, photo in GREAT AMERICAN FIRE ENGINGES-J.Mallet (1984) pgs 60-61, referred to as “The Custom Bean”, in 2002 given to borough public works dept.for fire prevention activities, on 1-21-04 sold on E-Bay no.2453848146 by sfd27 to pwdcalvin for $2055-Don Willard-commercial vineyard-Alpha,NJ-bought to facilitate irrigation of vines.

I'm pretty sure that isn't a Ford Cab. I have seen multiple cabs on PA apparatus like that and they are all spartan cabs.

Sorry, no more photos from Ludwigs Corner. We drove up from Maryland one Saturday to pick up the Ford and had no time for other photos. It snowed on the way home going across Route 30 in Lancaster and I remember saying a little prayer before turning the wiper switch!

Though I do not know what Reservation, the dealer was from Oologah, OK so looking at the map, I would presume it was the Osage Reservation. The dealer was seen quite frequently in MD and PA back then buying up apparatus and equipment to take back to OK.

Speaking of Pioneer III ALFs on Chevrolet chassis, I hope to shoot one on Monday in Pembroke,NC. I've heard Pembroke still has theirs, which was supposedly the first one built. Can any ALF experts confirm this?
