Actually the cab is a 1995 or 96. The 1992 cab was crushed in 2008 when the FAO drove the rig under a low overhang. So a used cab was placed on the rig.
These next photos are from the University of Kansas Fire and Rescue Training Institute (KUFRTI). A division within the University of Kansas Continuing Education. KU is located in Lawrence 30 miles west of Kansas City. Although Lawrence is quickly becoming a western suburb due to growth and many workers in the Kansas City metro live in Lawrence.
In Kansas we have a Fire Service Training Commission that was created in 2002 with revision of the 1949 statute that established fire service training at KU. The commission is comprised of twelve representatives from each fire service organization in the state. I am very honored to be the commission representative for the Fire Education Association of Kansas. The commission is charged with increasing funding for KUFRTI and provide oversight and guidance for the program and so that is may continue to train Kansas Firefighters. Fire Training in Kansas is supported by a percentage of your paid fire insurance premiums.
Since 2002 we have been able to replace all out dated training props such as the burn trailer and SCBA search maze. We have also added new trailers for Flammable gas fires, Rural Water Supply, FF I and FFII skills. Our props travel throughout the state at no charge to the requesting fire department. The below photos show our new equipment. Oh and yes everything is now RED, I mean how could you train firefighters without first showing them the proper color <img src='http://www.firepics.net/groupboards/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />
Note: Smokey "J" Jayhawk was our Kansas Fire Service mascot for many years. He was on all items associated with the institute and he wore a white Carins Senator helmet on his head. The Jayhawk logo was owned for many years by the student union and licensing was vague or not enforced. In recent years the student union sold the licensing rights to the KU athletic department. The athletic department will no longer allow anyone to use the Jayhawk logo inside or outside the University. This is why our trailers have a generic KU logo without the Smokey Jayhawk.
First Up is our Hackney Technical Rescue Training Trailer. This trailer is now on the State Wide mutual aid agreement. This change was prompted after the trailer was requested and responded in 2007 to Greensburg Kansas after the Tornado strike.
The next photos show our Flammable Liquid and Gas Trainer. This is our newest trailer just being placed in service in November. It replaces our homemade trainer. This trailer contains a Car fire prop, BBQ grill, Gas meter, Dumpster fire, LP Christmas tree, burn pan, and LP Tank.
Here are my two new Trainee's practicing on the trailer with our Truck Company's primary vent saw a Partner K-750 with Fire Hooks Unlimited 12 tooth blade. It eats roofs for lunch.
Yes all of our recruits are issued orange Cairns 880 traditional helmets and tan gear. Upon completing probation they are issued new RED Cairns 880 traditional helmets and Black Globe gear. The orange helmet is our right of passage and allows easy identification on the fire ground. These two new firefighters will allow us to have a consent seven on duty three on the Engine, four on the Truck.
Tender 1 at Fire House One returning from an alarm.
I know why does Lawrence a fully developed city need a Tender? Well they are required to keep a Tender at Fire House One because they are contracted to provide fire protection to Lawrence TWP near the Airport which is north of Fire House One across the river.
NOTE: This was the last ALF Green rig purchased. All new rigs are RED. This was the last rig purchased by the old fire chief. It sat unlettered for about a year, while the new chief decided what to do with it. He finely placed patch logos on the doors but still no reflective strips. They had some factory issues with the rig also.
I know yellow what a color, school buses are yellow, the sun is yellow. Now for the next two months while my RED 2004 E\-One Cyclone II 95ft mid-mount undergoes its second complete ladder rebuild since 2004 we have the Quest Demonstrator to drive as our phantom Engine 62.
Gene Taylor told me this Quest has been assigned to the Engineering department at E\-One and will never be sold. It happend to be the only demo in the E\-One fleet currently. So it was LOANED to us why out ladder is rebuild for the second time. We Drive RED rigs and always will. This is only for a short time, thankfully. I dont even have my REAL Q siren only a PA 3000 electronic. I'll have to get back in the habit of using the electronic.
