Do you have the serials for any of the WLF delivered to the Los Angeles City or County Fire depts? I think the county still has a few Wards around as their training engines. Then there's the famous E51 from Emergency! at the museum.

LA County:

80-592 through 80-622, 80-658 through 80-666, 80-671 through 80-675, and 80-1040 through 80-1047. They were 1972 and 1974 models, diesel powered, most were 1000/400 and all had canopy cabs.



LA City:

80-1273 through 80-1283, 80-1322 through 80-1331, and 80-1452. All were 1976 models, open cab 1500/500, with diesels.



Universal Studios:

80-811 was "Engine 51", a 1972 canopy cab diesel 1000/400.

Thanks! My hats off to you Dave. Were any of the LA City rigs special built? I don't recall many other customers who ordered open cab Wards.

Depends on what you mean by "special built". Custom apparatus are just that, "custom", or customer specified. Within the parameters of WLF's designs, the LA City rigs were special built for LA City.

Including the 22 for LA, Ward LaFrance built at least 73 open cab Model 80 apparatus and at least 18 Model 82's (TCM cab).

The info I have shows that 80-14 was a 75' Hi-Ranger delivered to Dallas. 80-15 and 80-16 also went to Dallas, but I have no info on them. Dallas purchased several similar pumpers in the early 1960's. All the ones I have specs for show them to be 750/550

Not much to go on here. The articulating water tower was introduced by WLF as the "Telerise" in 1972, this may have ben a demo unit. The name Telerise was dropped due to conflicts with the Snorkel folks. It was known from that point on at the "AWT". Typical tank size was 500 gallons, but it could have been smaller, 300 was also common. It has a diesel. My info shows all of the AWT's as being 55'.

As did much of the basis for the database I have. With that particular number, someone else provided me with info that showed that it belonged to one of the Dallas Hi-Ranger platforms. Dallas had several, in addition to the fleet of pumpers and midhsip aerials. Steve Skaar posted shots of a lot of them, with numbers, taken by him or Duane Troxel, but not all. I still do not have everything straight on the Dallas rigs.

WOW look near the booster reel... anyone eles remember the "Suitcases" for Scott Packs? Also PFD running the Red Bump Caps!!! That is History there.

Very cool shot. I do remember the Scott "suitcases". The MSA filter type had them as well, in red as I recall.

I do remember the Drivers had a special cap of some type too. The water jug should have given these SA members away...
