From the EBay photos it looks like the tiller seat has been enclosed on the Gloucester tiller. The last time I saw it in person at the Middle st. fire in Dec. 2007 it wasn't. I don't see anything else noticeable, so maybe some mechanical work.
It's definitely still a lot of money to spend considering the age of this truck and it's imminent replacement.
I've always been curious about why a new tiller with such an old tractor too. I've seen lots of re-tractored tillers, but this is the only one I can think of that's opposite.

It wasn't enclosed in late August, 2009. The guys said that the trailer was horrible and that it never should have been done. It was at that point they told me to climb up there and see how horrible the visibility was. I snapped this photo at that time.

That is the spare, the MACK will be back inservice this week...why this has a 4 on it I dont know, Nothing a little paint remover wont take care of......
Spent a little time today digging through the collection and found some old, not so old stuff from the North Shore. All photos have been bought from various places and the photographers remain unknown.
Danvers Engine 3 - 198? Ford/E-One, one of the few lime green rigs left in service in the area aside from Lynn's ALF's when I was growing up. Definitely one of favorite rigs, saw it plenty here in Beverly for mutual aid.
Here is Danvers Engine 3's former Ford/E-One sporting a more conservative paint job, and running as reserve Engine 4 when this photo was taken sometime in the late 1990's.
Salem Ladder 1 - 1983 Maxim 100' with a 1995 refurb by Fire Resources. Originally designated Ladder 2 before the refurb, it became Ladder 1 afterwards. When the Pierce went in service at Ladder 1 it became Ladder 4 briefly, then it was refurbed again with a Pierce cab and has come full circle to be designated Ladder 2 once again. If I have any of that wrong feel free to correct me...that's a lot of information to remember.
Salem Engine 2, a Mack R built by the department mechanic utilizing a Ranger body along with parts from a couple of old Salem Mack B's. It would later see service as Engine 4 and Engine 5.

While I'm not a Beverly FF, I do know this...starting around 2003 the city cut back on overtime, putting Ladder 1 out of service at HQ much of the time, leaving Engine 5's quint in North Beverly the only ladder in the city. Now the new quint runs out of headquarters, with Engine 1 going out of service instead, and the new Truck 1 acting as a jack of all trades in downtown.

Do you still have the KME as Engine 3? I was in Salem three years ago and Ladder 1 was the only unit running from No.1 and Engine 3 and Ladder 2 were browned out. How is staffing today and are back fully staffed? Thanks for the info.

We currently are running 4 engines (1,2,4,and 5), 1 truck (Ladder 1) and the deputy chief. We have increased our manning, so we are able to keep 4 engines and 1 ladder in service 95% of the time. We are due new hires come May (Contractual), so we should be able to start staffing our 2nd truck company (Ladder 2) and a consistent basis. Engine 3 (KME) is still here, A 2nd spare (Engines 3 and 6), but for how much longer I don't know. She's old and tired, but served us EXTREMELY well!!!! Ray, good to hear the staffing situation is looking up for you guys across the bridge...I can't even remember the last time a 2nd ladder was staffed. This Dad thing is a fulltime job for me, so I haven't been following things like I used to be able too.
