Mark, The EC-135 is actually MAMA-1, based out of Asheville. MAMA-2 is a BK-117, based out of Franklin and Mission/St. Joes also has a reserve BK-117 that is currently painted in its former paint scheme because it came used out of La Crosse,WI.

Not to stray too far off topic, but I always thought helmets were a no-no on approaching a helicopter?

Never had anyone say anything about using helmets to us. We fly people several times a week>

If you notice, the flight crew from STAT Medevac are wearing helmets.



Who told you not to wear helmets?



I have worked for three different medevac services, and that was never part of our education to EMS and fire crews.



Ball caps are a no no, but helmets should be fine.
