srq2009,

We were told by the guys in Miami that Key Biscayne averages maybe 3 calls in a 24 hour shift.

Sorry you guys had a bad experience at key biscayne.....they are among the highest paid FF's in South Florida and the least busiest. Sadly, there are people like that in every organization....hopefully you will continue to hit most of the good ones....I was talking to Rocket the other day....he had a great time showing you guys around as well.

Tom,

I've had a blast down here, and have taken a lot of pictures. I have been able to put a lot of faces with names on here now, as well. Everybody has been great. Monday I'm doing my ride along at Miami-Dade E54 w/ Brodbeck. I can't wait for that. The only bad part is that it ends in just a few days.

Alex, I have a question about BSFR:

There are 10 engine companies (E6, E206, E10, E14, E23, E27, E28, E36 (tanker), E37 and E106) most of which are 2008 Quantums excepting E6, E206 and E36. There are 3 ladder (quint) companies (Q28, Q37 and Tower 32). Can you confirm?

I saw a picture somewhere (fairly small so not worth posting) of Tower 32 and Tower 51, both with those 2005? Pierce Dash 100' platforms. Is there another tower floating around, unassigned? Or did I miss one somewhere?

Thanks!

Patrick,

2008 Quantums are assigned to... E10, E14, E23, & E106 as to the tower ladders there are only 2, both are 2005 Pierce Dash 100' Platforms.

Where does Tower 51 run from? There isn't a station 51 from what I can tell...

Wouldn't Tower Co. 81 in Weston count? Or since it is technically Weston owned it isn't?

Now another stupid question about the 2 '05 ladder towers...

One is at 32's and the other at 51's. Is the rig at 51's the same one formerly assigned to 81's before they got the new Weston owned rig? If so, wasn't it at 51's 1st, then to 81's which would make this time the 2nd go round at 51's?

Thanks in advance.

Alex I'm sorry lol, for some reason I thought Patrick (Shoop) was asking...

Ok, let me explain...

Years ago BSFR Station-51 operated an Engine and Rescue, Pompano Beach Fire Rescue came in and annexed that area, plans were to re-open Station-51 at a different location as the "Regional Services Station" staffing TL51, however it never happened. When Cooper City merged with BSFR they decided to move TL51 into Station-81 in Weston as TL81 (2005 Dash). What was Q81 (2000 Quantum) moved to Station-28 in Cooper City now running as Q28... when the City of Weston took delivery of TL81 (2008 Quantum) BSFR TL51 became a reserve.

Funny thing is... TL81 ran with the number 51 decal on the truck for years, all this could have been prevented by simply having them changed the number.

Ladder 68,

I tried to clear it up as much as I could... let me know if you have anymore questions.

No problem (re name) and thanks a lot for the clear-up. I've realized that Broward County is probably the most complex and fascinating municipality in terms of history and policy, even though that means a lot of confusion when it comes to numbering and station changes.

With regard to Q28 and TL51, I don't see why they wouldn't run the newer truck as front-line and replace the 2000 with the 2005. Maybe I'm oversimplifying the situation though.

Thanks again!

Makes sense to me and thanks for the specific details. Not bad to have a department operate 2 tower ladders and have 1 (an '05 at that) as a reserve. Ha ha.
