BTW AFD has moved Engine 35 to Station 22 (Engine 22 & Engine 35). I'm not sure if this is a permanent move or not?

Yeah, AFD isnt sure either <img src='http://www.firepics.net/groupboards/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> so we will just have to wait and see. Supposedly the concept has been working well even if the old station is a little cramped.
The Austin City Council approved $2.8 million to build Fire Station 45 at Spectrum Drive and Parmer Lane. I'm not sure when the construction is set to begin.
For of thos keeping up with AFD. There new fire station (Co 45?) at Spectrum Drive and Parmer Lane. Is expected to open in February or March 2009.
Medic 27 will be moving from FS34 to FS45 when it opens.
What are "scene dots?"
Steve, Scene Dots are the reflective dots used between the raised treads on to treadplate. They are used to retrofit reflective striping on apparatus with a treadplate surface where traditional striping cannot be used.
Austin will be taking delivery of five (5) Pierce Contender Engines. This is the best shot I could get for now, as you can see, this one is being assigned to E-45 and the other I saw to Engine 12. Also heard a rumor that one of them might make an appearance at FDIC, but I don't know how credible that information is.
This is a departure from Austin's Quantum Engines. It is also to note that the new Fire Chief's old department ran Pierce Contenders almost exclusively. Seth Granville

That is a sharp looking rig. I wonder if this is the end of AFD using the Quantum chassis?

Possibly. The rumor is that they want to add more brush trucks, as well as replace existing ones, especially given the drought situation. Seth Granville

Austin Fire Department
NEW Engine 45 2009 Pierce Contender (Chasis actually a Pierce Saber) UPDATE: Only one of these Engines being delivered currently....no one knows for sure what the four other Engines on order are going to be...with Austin tightening it's belt, and the Quantum's price over the value of a Contender, I think this might spell the end of Austin's Quantums if this Contender holds up. I also maybe think this could have been an emergency purchase, I don't know if Engine 1 ended up being totalled or what. Job #: 21586 Seth Granville

If that's the case then. Don't be surprised to see one assigned to either E17 or E18. Because E17 & E18 are the busiest engine co's.

OK, so here's the deal as of March 26th (from the City Of Austin website). I was also previously told Austin was getting 5 new Engines this year, but I will try and clarify that, as this new information seems to be in addition to that. Quote:At its meeting on March 26, 2009, the Austin City Council took the following action as part of its consent agenda: http://www.ci.austin.tx.us/news/2009/council_032609.htm Seth Granville

And some further info:
Quote:This contract is for the purchase two new brush and one new pumper fire trucks manufactured by Siddons Manufacturing that will be assigned to the Austin Fire Department. The pumper truck is equipped with a standard foam system, 750 gallon water tank, 1500 gallon per minute fire pump, and assorted firefighting tools, hose and equipment. The pumper truck includes a 4-door custom-built crew cab with a fire pumper body capable of carrying a maximum of six firefighters. The pumper is capable of pumping water from either a fire hydrant or its own on-board water tank. The two brush trucks will be built according to National Wildfire Coordinating Group, Type V specifications and will meet current National Fire Protection Association standards. These trucks will be used in various capacities depending on the size and nature of the fire. One pumper and one brush truck will be assigned to the new Fire Station 45 serving the Avery area. One brush truck will be assigned to Fire Station 42 serving the Del Valle area. These are new vehicles to the City's fire fighting fleet and have an expected use of 15 years before replacement. I'm not sure how true this is? But I've heard that Engine 45 & Brush Truck 45 will be running out of fire station 38 until there station is finished.
The Del Vally station already has a brush truck (Brush Truck 42). The question now is where are they going to resigned Brush Truck 42 to?

The above information is from the City website. With AFD's budget cuts and staffing reassignments, I wonder how they are going to staff the station? Seth Granville

That's a good question. I'm not sure how they staffing reassignments?
But I can see them moving some people over from 34's & 39's to 45's.
The above information is from the City website. With AFD's budget cuts and staffing reassignments, I wonder how they are going to staff the station?
|
