Parnassus Borough was located adjacent to the Borough of New Kensington. These boroughs merged in 1931 to form the third class City of New Kensington. Parnassus is the southern end of the city. Great photo Frank.

1956 B-Model 750 gpm Hale pump 300 gwt. Sold to a collector 2 years ago. This engine was the third engine to respond in the City of Lower Burrell out of Station No. 3.

I'm trying to ID who is in the pictures, but they were taken waaaaay before my time. It still looks the same as when I joined; about the only change we made before selling it was removing the booster line.

It does look like Sam B. standing on top near the back.

Additional info on the Lafayette rig:



1951 Reo Gold Comet Model E-22C/High Welding, full cab, 500/1100, 6 cyl. Gold comet gas motor, 5-speed manual transmission, full width compartmented body, front-mount Barton-American pump. The chassis was purchased for $3,800 from J. Harvey Spahr of Manheim. High Welding built the body for $3,182. In 1953 a 250 ft reel of 1 inch booster hose was added on the platform in center of tailboard. A new 1,100 gallon water tank was installed by Hahn in 1965. In 1971 the booster reel was moved to the top of the body to make room for a Hale portable pump purchased from Earl Brooks for $679. It was loaned to the West Earl Fire Company (Lancaster County) in 1978 when they were left without any apparatus following an accident. It was returned later that year and had the water tank removed and converted to a foam unit. It carried 500 gallons of foam. It was replaced in 1986 by the 1965 Ford C/Hahn and sold to a Ohio contractor.

That rehab had an unusual feature. When the Spartan cab was installed, they used the style which had the motor box between the officer and driver. Since during the rehab, the motor was left in it's original postion on the Ford chassis, behind and below the cab floor, that left a empty doghouse. What to do with all that wasted space? Simple...split the grille in half, hinge it at top and bottom, and mount the booster reel in the engine doghouse space!

It is interesting to see the old pictures from down in Braddock. My grandparents lived on Ardmore Manor on the other side of the hill; you would go up Yost, then drop down the other side into the lovely boro(?) of Braddock. Even when I was younger I remember it being a scary place. It is is sad to drive down through there today and see nothing but abandoned buildings...



I never got to shoot the old purple Ward from #3, but I did get a shot of the ex. Evans City Ward they ran until they got the Kenworth from Normalville. Also, they ran the old Salvage/Squad from Blythedale for a short time, still painted bright orange. They were always a strange group down there.



The East Boro's area is a neat place to shoot with a mixture of old and new.

Washington Township, Fayette County

She ended up down at the Denbo Vesta #6 fire department as Rescue 19 prior to Washington Township getting their huge Seagrave rescue.



I don't know where it is today; Denbo purchased a Ford F550/Elite light rescue around 2007.
