Those are great photos of Kansas City apparatus. Keep them coming. Until this thread the Kansas City Fire Department was under represented as far as photographs go.

Dennis yes this was purchased in 1996 for Engine 4 in Grain Valley. It was CJC's only and last venture into E\-One. This rig had issues and CJC returned to Pierce for their next purchase. This rig is now in the spare fleet.

I remember this rig. It might have been a 1987 or 1988 Pierce Lance it was sold by the late 1990's. Pumper 11 and Pumper 12 are the two reserve units in LSFD.

KCFD in 2005 abandoned the last three Quints and disposed of them. They never made reserve, although Q-28 was assigned to Truck 8 for a short time when the Sutphen was totaled. KCFD Returned to the correct concept of Engine and Truck. Quint 41 is now Pumper 41, Quint 28 is now Pumper 28, Quint 44 is now Pumper 44. Truck 15 was reactivated at FH 36 and Truck 8 was moved to FH 41. Auto-Aid was signed with South Platte to provide a Truck for the North West side of KC in P-44's area. Truck 14 has never been reactivated, although there is a plan to reactivate Truck 14 when Pumper 44 some day gets a new fire house. At that point Truck 4 will move from FH3 to FH14.

I should be up Wednesday or Thursday to help run the FOOLS booth. I have a retirement party in Southern Kansas to attend on Friday for a member of the Training Commission. We should catch up Wed or Thursday.

The pic of Pumper 10, (KCFD) I believe is the "old" Pumper 25. Note the red interior, small P10 stickers and different rear rotators on the rear of the rig. This rig was a 4 man cab, w/ no parade seats, vs. the later rigs that came w/ 5 man cabs.



MFD 61 KS might have the correct info. on this matter.

Sorry for the mistake, it was late last night. These are 1997 Cyclone II's Quints. This must have been at the 1999 IAFC. In 1996 they purchased a 100ft Sutphen Tower Ladder for Truck 6 and a 75ft Sutphen Ladder Quint for Quint 38. The 75ft lasted less than a year they had axle issues that were unresolved so the rig was disposed of. The Tower on the other hand served at Truck 6 and then was transferred to Truck 13 and was disposed of in 2009. It never entered the reserve pool. Rick

This was the Rescue that started it all. Originally headed to Topeka, Kansas as a City Service Truck Company. It was rejected and sold to KCFD and placed in service as Rescue 9 at FH35, disbanding Truck 9 a 1986 Seagrave 100ft Tiller. This rescue does not have a Q siren, typical of Topeka specs at the time.

Edwardsville is one of three fire departments in Wyndotte County KCK. They staff an Engine each day with three or four. They have a second fire house that is vacant and has never been used. The second fire house and these two pumps were part of a 1989 bond issue.

This pump was sold to a collector in Florida a few years ago. At the time it was the oldest in service fire engine in Johnson County. Lake Quivira was built in the 1930's as a private resort community and now offers upscale housing with a country-lake club. Lake Quivira is a private city and is gated. They are the ONLY fully volunteer fire department left in Johnson County. They have two Engine's and a Hover Craft for the lake. Lake Quivira purchased a new International/ E\-One in 2005 to replace the 1964 FWD





NOTE: The Red Federal Becon Ray is 174 osolating light.

Now serves as the second out or called Engine 2. Lake Quivira is on the Johnson County Fire Alarm and since they are only one fire house with two engines and volunteer they were assigned Engine 1 and Engine 2 as their ID. They respond to 75-80 calls a year and are the only fully volunteer fire department left in Johnson County. Automatic response by Shawnee, Kansas Quint 72 for all still alarms and EMS. Shawnee provides a full first alarm assignment of three pumps, one quint, and battalion chief for reported fires. Lake Quivira purchased a new International/ E\-One in 2005 to replace the 1964 FWD.

1986 Seagrave 100ft HD Ladder 1 of 3 purchased



First Assigned in White over Lime-Green to Truck 9 then wrecked into ATA bus. Reserve Rescue 3 in the prior post replaced this Truck as Rescue 9 thus disbanding Truck 9. Very sad anytime you loose a Truck Co especially a TDA.



Second Assigned in White over RED to Truck 11 the sold to KCFD Fireman



Truck 1,7,9 received these rigs in 1986. They were the first Heavy Duty pre-piped Ladders KCFD had ordered. Until 1986 only Snorkel 2, Snorkel 3, and Truck 6 (Sutphen Tower) were pre-piped.



NOTE: These were delivered without Q sirens although they were added later by the companies. Also they were delivered in White over Lime-Green. They were also delivered with Whelen Edge Strobe Light Bars. This Aero dynic was added after it returned to Truck 11.



NOTE: Truck 9 was wrecked in 1995 and was out of service for three years and returned in 1998 and spent a very short time at Truck 11 before being replaced by a E\-One Cyclone II 100ft Super Tiller in 1999.

Engine 5 Ex: Engine 1



A new Engine 5 and Ladder 5 are being ordered. Engine 5 will return to Engine 1, Ladder 5 is sadly being replaced with a 100ft Tower Ladder Quint called Truck 5 and Quint 1 will replaced the current Quint 3. This will make the entire front line fleet RED again <img src='http://www.firepics.net/groupboards/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/luxhello.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Luxhello' /> After this Lawrence will have four 75ft Quints one 100ft Tower Quint and a dry Heavy Rescue in service. Ladder 5 will become the spare and special call.

Thank goodness it only took two rounds of Midi-Pumpers and Quints for KCFD to get back on track. These were the first Midi's purchased as the Second Piece to Quint 28,38,42, Pumper 16,10. Squad 27 was stand alone on the far east-side between Pumper 23 and Pumper 24. In 1993 six new E\-One/ Freightliner RED Midi's were purchased to replace the above. They were all phased out by 1997 and disposed of.

When this photo was taken Car 101 was housed at Fire House 10 with Pumper 10, Truck 3, Squad 10, Command Van, and Air-Light 1. During this time Car 101 was still staffed with a FAO and Deputy Fire Chief to make 2nd alarm or greater fires. Currently Car 101 drives himself and can either stay at Fire House 10 or Respond from home. Each Deputy Fire Chief has their own car now and they are Car 101-A, Car 101-B, and Car 101-C.

This unit runs as the second piece at Fire House 1 with an engine and is replacing a 1989 E\-One Hurricane 80ft Ladder (Quint71).

Ground Ladders: 14 roof, 16 roof, 24 2-section, 35 2-section, Little Giant, booster reel, and front bumper winch, E-Q2b siren, and code three siren. Shawnee departed from the REAL Q sirens in 2003.



IMO: It is set up as a really big Engine Company with CAFS and the small amount of ground ladders, don't forget the booster reel. Oh well to each their own. Every rig in Shawnee has a winch for some reason.
