ALARM OVER FIRE PATROL

By ANGELA MONTEFINESE

August 31, 2006 -- Dozens of Greenwich Village residents and businesses are calling on Attorney General Eliot Spitzer to save the 200-year-old New York City Fire Patrol - threatening to file suit if nothing is done.

The patrol, an organization financed by the city's insurance companies, works alongside the FDNY to protect the contents of burning buildings.

In January, the Board of Fire Underwriters voted to disband the group, claiming it's too expensive to maintain.

But it's not going without a fight.

The City Council's Fire and Criminal Justice Committee is holding hearings on the closure in September, and yesterday, residents and businesses near the patrol's headquarters sent a letter to Spitzer, claiming the board violated its charter by eliminating the patrol.

Why did FDNY get a new HAZMAT 1, the Mack is only a 2001?[/quote]

Hazmat 1 is the busiest company in the city. They respond on all suspected hazmat incidents.

How so? According to Firehouse Magazine's national run survey:

FDNY's busiest Engine company (engine 75) did 5,790 runs. Hazmat 1 did 1,205.

Im thinking he means that since there is only 1 HAZ MAT 1, they are responsible for all the 5 boroughs which makes them busy running hazmat related calls throughout the city.
People complaining about spam in the spam mail box... Huh, what'll they think of next?
