Yes with a Pierce Arrow XT I believe. Someone (i think on this board) went to some public building where all city purchases are recorded and found one that proved FDNY ordered a rescue.

So Rescue 1 is going to be replaced with a new Pierce? What about the other 4 Rescue co's? Are they getting new rigs or are they going to stay with the rigs they have now?

Rescue 1 will have its new piece sometime in the next month or two. 4 More Pierce Arrow XT Rescues, and a ladder are on order.

Yes, I am serious. This is per the Captain of Rescue Co 1, and the Marine Operations Battalion. Both of these guys told me the same thing about 2 weeks ago, when I took a trip down.



The ladder has not yet been assigned, and I have no idea who it will go to. However, my knowledge of the fleet and an educated guess would lead me to believe it would replace a 1999 Seagrave RM. This is because the 1996's have been or will be replaced by the time it is delivered. It would also probably be in Manhattan, so that eliminates a few more units. This narrows it down to L24, but that's just a guess. Who knows?

I would think they would want the new rig assigned to a busy company, no matter year model of their current rig. Find out if it can be broken and if so how badly and how soon it gets fixed. Just a thought.



And I thought L24 has a newer rig?

I figured this would be a good day to post this photo. Everyone here is used to the photos I put up here, for the most part, clean, well composed, cropped just right. So you may wonder about this photo. Yes, I have better shots of 10 truck, one is actually my desktop image, but there is a story behind this photo.



I'm a native New Yorker, most of my family is there, and I don't go back as much as I should. I tell myself I should go, and you look at the calendar, and 5 years go past. The last time I was in the city, was just a few weeks before 9/11, My parents were on AA Flight 11 also just a few weeks before 9/11, my mom hasn't flown since. I figured it would be a good time to go, to see my relatives, the ones who barely escaped the collapse, the cousin who worked in WTC7 but took and extra day in the Bahamas and missed work 9-11-01, and to pay my respects at Ground Zero. I figured July 4th would be appropriate.



For those who have not been there, I don't know what's worse, actually looking through the fence at the sight, or the walk from the subway station to Ground Zero, thinking about the emotions that are going to hit you when you first gaze upon it. Those emotions started the moment I got on the plane in Los Angeles, they weren't getting any better as I got closer.



When I got there, outside of the emotional punch in the gut, there are dozens of tourists, snapping pictures like it's a theme park, something to gawk at. I'm having a hard time just breathing, and here are all these people looking for a souvenir of thier summer trip to NYC. So I decided to walk past all that, to go to 10 house, like I had the last time I was at the WTC, just weeks before they fell, weeks before everyone I talked to that day fell in the line of duty.



As I get to the corner, Engine 10 is just pulling through the intersection, with 10 truck right behind. I had my girlfriend's small digital camera, and snapped this photo of Ten Truck.



Suprisngly, I'm all alone on the coprner, except for a man standing next to me, with his young son, maybe 7, 8 years old. He leans over to his son, and says softly, "Those are real heroes."



I walked across the street and cried for 10 minutes.



I have better photos of 10 Truck, but everytime I see this photo, I hear that man's voice.



Sorry about the blog, just wanted to tell that story.
