Virginia apparatus - miscellaneous
This unit is now owned by the volunteers at Bon Air and used as a parade piece. I believe Roto-Ray and firemag know the history of this unit.
I've always liked this unit. A couple of decades ago, CFD was using a couple of these mini-pumpers. "Unit 42" was used by the volunteers as a second engine. However, the county eventually stopped using the midi-concept, and stated that they would no longer fund the upkeep of the midis. Therefore, BAVFD re-designated this as "Unit 48," a brush truck. This ran as 4's brush truck till around 1998, when a true brush unit was purchased.

At that time, this went to Chesterfield Company 8 (Matoaca) as "Unit 82" - a second out pumper for the volunteers, ironically! However, with the low volunteer membership at this station, the county only left it there for a handful of years, and then decided they were going to scrap it.

The Bon Air volunteers made a deal with the county for the county to donate it to them, promising that they would not return it to service. Over the past two years, the BAVFD has restored the rig to like-new condition, and it can be found on the Virginia parade circuit often.

If I'm not mistaken, this was the first fire engine in York. It's being restored by the county firefighters.

Bruce,

I spoke to Boyce this past Saturday hoping to go by and photograph the squad. I was told it gets re-lettered this week. I will be back in touch with them in several weeks.

I will make sure you get a photo.

One of the Henrico Quantums sporting the much improved looking nose. Note the house siren in the background. Most stations built in the 60's had these when there was still a large volunteer complement.

I slipped out for a little while this afternoon and headed to the Crozier VFD in Goochland County. The only rig I was not able to shoot is their engine, a 2007 Pierce Dash. Here one of six identical tankers purchased by the County.

And here is their mini-pumper. At one time each company could select from 3 approved colors for apparatus (yellow, white or red), but this may be the last non-red piece left in service.

Might as well add the ambulance. I believe all the ambulances in the county are painted and striped just like this one.

Calling Chief 413,

I hear the new Dunn Loring Velocity PUC is at Singer Associates. I was wondering if the following will happen.

*Current 413 becomes 813

*Current 813 will be sold

If this in incorrect, can you please enlighten me. Thank you!

FYI, C413 posted in the Dunn Loring thread that the ALF Eagle will become E-413B. No mention of the older engine.

Remember that the "800" series is no longer used in FXCO, as this is now the designator for all PGFD units.

Dunn Loring is also currently using a County owned E\-One engine as 413B, something happened to the older Pierce, and I believe it was sold. I would imagine that the county engine would go back to them. I'm sure Shawn can fill us all in though.

A few more Goochland shots from Sunday. Not going to post the newer engine or tanker since they are identical to the other companies' rigs.
