All history credit for the previous posts goes to Retired Members, Jimmy Embrey and The Late Jackson Gerhart (RIP).

There are other excellent resources and historians that are always helpful, such as Retired and Current Members, The FFA, Local 36 "100 Years of Glory, and so on. But, Jimmy Embrey and The Late Jackson Gerhart are the standard by which all others are measured.

God Bless Them and Thank You for preserving "Our" history.

Sre there any plans to replace 22 Engine especially since it is what a mile from the new 24 on Georgia Ave. Maybe something in the area of or on the property of Walter Reed? <img src='http://www.firepics.net/groupboards/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/idea.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Idea' /> <img src='http://www.firepics.net/groupboards/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/usa.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Usa' /> <img src='http://www.firepics.net/groupboards/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/fireman.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Fireman' />

Fantastic stuff. Do you deal any with the FFA Museum at 3 Engine

Maxim,

The FFA has always been very helpful to the members of the DCFD. I am not a member of the FFA, but their members helped me with photos for Rescue Squad 1's sitting room when I was a fireman at Squad 1. Whenever I was detailed to E31 I would spend hours going over the FFA displays on the second floor. Since the move to E3's quarters, I have not seen their museum. Someday, I hope that a former DC firehouse will become a DCFD/National Fire Museum.

I remember being detailed there the winter of 78 . You would go to bed and wake up with snow on your rack from it blowing in through the cracks in the wooden walls <img src='http://www.firepics.net/groupboards/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/jawdrop.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Jawdrop' />

Lt. Kemp

Contact Lt. Embrey and I am sure he will give you a <img src='http://www.firepics.net/groupboards/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/fireman.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Fireman' /> tour of the museum. He has done a great job and is really proud of it. Soon there will even be an elevator to transport you to the third floor.

I LOVE the old pictures.

Makes you think about how far we have come and in another 100 years, how they will look back on us and shake their heads saying "how did they do it back then?"

August 3, 1986 was my first tour at Ladder 11. IIRC, that is the oldest firehouse holding first line companies.

The Vigilant house on M Street has one of their firehouse dogs buried in the cornerstone of the building.

Great pics, Ron. Brings back a lot of memories.

Stay safe, Brothers.
Kill 'em all, let Allah sort 'em out. NEVER forget 9/11/01 WTC, Pentagon, Pa. Avenge the acts with NO mercy.

Thanks to ALL the Brothers who were there 9/11/01 and afterwards. Words can never say what appreciation we have for you all.

Being new to DCFD and loving the history of this department I would like to find some of the old houses. I would like to add the former firehouses to my pic collection, could anyone give me a list of where some of them are?

I know of a few:

North Capitol Street in Eckington, not sure what companies ran out of there

Maryland Ave NE, old 10 Engine

I really appreciate the help!
