As far as the green running boards I'm not sure, but as to who is 1st in at Bethel Grove is a good question. You see it sits in between 22's and 16's which are to very busy Co's staffed by all great guys willing to cut anybody out anywhere, also you have to factor if Kramer is working that day on 34's.

Believe it or not but Federal paired up with Chief Eddie Hamilton of MFD in the late 60s to help in designing the helmets for use during the period of civil disturbances of the 60s and 70s. They were actually a great piece and gave a ton of head and neck protection.

Kevin, thanks for the info. That is intresting. We trial-tested two Federal Helmets in the 1970's but the Leather 5A New Yorkers and Carins 880's never left. Our chief was very tradtional to say the least. He required all career firemen to wear Leather 5A New Yorkers. You were told your first day on the job where to purchase the 5A and given a warning not to showup empty handed.
Wichita, Kansas three hours south of Kansas City used yellow, black, orange, and white Federal Helmets into the 1980's before converting to Metro 660's. During the Metro 660's days WFD gave the firemen the option to purchase there own tradtional helmets. They have since returned to tradtional helmets department wide with the same color scheme as the Federal's.

If memory serves me right, MFD was using the MSA Topguard, aka. "msa melt aways" back in the mid 1960's”. When the trouble began in 1968 the rocks, bricks and other projectiles starting flying at the members, who were trying to perform their duties and did nothing to harm the citizens of Memphis.
A rock or part of a brink was thrown at either the 13’s or 17’s pumper and hit the officer I am thinking, causing several injuries. Soon afterwards the Federal helmet was the helmet issued to the members for the better head protection.
I know Eddie had a big part in the design of this new looking helmet!

I beleive the old MSA helmets were used by rookies through school. There wasnt many of them around.

Memphis Truck 29 is on its way from Appleton, Wi. I have pics but left my camera at work. It was headed to Memphis and then over to fire show in Arkansas. You guys are getting one sharp rig.
It appeared to have 1 and it looks like a cover in the bumper for one.
