I have a question. The two new Ferrara/Spartan Collapse Rescue rigs, number 3 and 5. Does this mean Staten Island is getting a collapse rig, and is Rescue 3's Collapse rig, the 1995 Supervac being replaced?
Thanks in advance.
Yes, Rescue-3's T/T is being replaced, as is R-5's Collapse piece (they are running the old worn-out Mack/Saulsbury, ExR-2)

The ESU started from what was called the MACHINE GUN SQUAD. THey would respond with manpower and handle assist with calls like collapses at the time.
dont think it was cause ofr firehouse closures!!! read that the fdny donated an old pumer to nypd to covert into a esu unit after a deather of an officer.
The rig that was given to the NYPD was used by rescue 1 and when it was placed o/o/s is was then given to the PD for the making of the ESU team.
