If memory serves, I believe that it has something to do with the first due ladder company to that area being located a ways out from there.

Correct. The first due truck company to that area of Rockaway is 159 Truck from Brooklyn. Ladder company 171 was formed at the quarters of E-329 in December 1961, but was disbanded on November 22, 1975.
The only MARC in 46 ENGINE!
